IFACC Initiative
Atividades de organizações sem fins lucrativos
Scaling-up the commitment and implementation of financial mechanisms for deforestation- and conversion-free agriculture.
Sobre nós
IFACC is a collaborative initiative, launched in Glasgow in November 2021, by The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Tropical Forest Alliance (TFA) hosted by the World Economic Forum, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The initiative brings together complementary capabilities, to scale up financial mechanisms such as farm loan products, farmland investment funds, corporate debt instruments and capital market offerings. To expedite progress on this front, there is an estimated need for as much as $30 billion in these sectors over the course of the decade, versus hundreds of millions available today. IFACC is working to accelerate financing in two ways: 1. IFACC unites leading banks, companies, investors, asset managers, to signal a collective commitment to lend, and invest more in the area of sustainable production. It also facilitates transparency on individual commitments from each signatory on their contribution towards expanding finance in the key sectors. 2. IFACC works with signatories to implement and scale up new finance mechanisms - including support on environmental and social management; connections to concessional capital groups and other capital providers for the longer-term and patient capital needed for these transitions; sharing insights about industry best practices, and leveraging data and studies on the business case and impacts. IFACC has been endorsed as a catalytic Initiative by the CEO Principals of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), the global coalition of leading financial institutions committed to accelerating the decarbonization of the economy, chaired by Mark Carney the UN Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance and anchored in the UN’s Race to Zero campaign.

As we continue to work with banks, investors and agricultural companies to accelerate the transition within global food systems, we are pleased to announce our endorsement for the Food Systems Call to Action. By endorsing this initiative, IFACC is aligning itself with hundreds of leading organisations and initiatives around the world that are working together on a shared vision for the future of global supply chains and agriculture. Experts suggest investment into food systems must increase by 10 to 31 times in order to meet the anticipated annual need of $300-350 billion. It is only through collaborative and meaningful action-led commitments that these goals can be met. It’s great to see data from our recent Scaling Nature Finance Now report - co-authored with Capital for Climate, Race to Resilience and Race to Zero – featured in this video, which was played at high-profile UK #COP29 events and bilateral meetings. The data, provided by Capital for Climate, shows that $1.67 billion was invested in Brazil’s nature last year – a sign that change is happening. IFACC and our signatories are leading the way on this, supporting efforts across the Amazon, Cerrado and Chaco to generate increased finance for deforestation & conversion-free beef and soy. But there is still a big global finance gap for nature-based solutions and food systems, and we hope that negotiators at #COP29 take concrete action to address this by including food and agriculture in the final New Collective Quantified Goal. It was great to see IFACC recognised as a leading initiative for food systems transformation by High-Level Climate Champions’ Emmanuelle Pinault at #COP29 this week. This year’s COP has a clear focus on climate finance, but with only 4% of current funds going to food systems, the work that IFACC & other innovative finance initiatives are doing is critical to mobilising capital for deforestation-free supply chains. Several of our signatories including Syngenta, AGBI Real Assets, Itau BBA and VOX Capital are all in Baku to talk about the innovative financial solutions that can ignite agricultural transformation.
