The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) / National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Office of Law Enforcement of the United States had hosted two 3-day workshops earlier this year in Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica, addressing illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing (IUUF), Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), and other aspects of fisheries enforcement. NOAA had planned an IUU Fishing workshop on Case Package Preparation and Fisheries Prosecutions from 8 to 10 October. This activity, postponed to November due to Hurricane Milton's expected and subsequent landfall in Florida, responds to recommendations from the two previously mentioned regional IUU Fishing Enforcement workshops convened in Trinidad and Jamaica in May, at which participants had identified improved coordination with prosecutors and further training in case package management as priority needs across the Caribbean. Peter A. Murray, CRFM Advisor, Fisheries Management and Development, is a guest lecturer, and Sanya Compton, CRFM Research Graduate, Research and Resource Assessment, is participating as a trainee.
