The British Columbia Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE) is an independent, not-for-profit corporation that helps fund the development, commercialization and scaling of made-in-B.C. clean energy technologies – from Canada to the world. We unite B.C. innovators, government agencies, academia, communities, non-profits and leading corporations around one primary focus: Accelerating the world towards a net-zero carbon future. Through its Open and Directed Innovation programs, CICE grants non-dilutive funding for clean energy projects that have the potential to significantly reduce GHG emissions and address ‘hard to decarbonize’ challenges. We fast-track credible world-class technologies and solutions with high impact potential in: - Low carbon hydrogen - Renewable natural gas - Battery technology and energy storage - Carbon management - Bioenergy, biofuels and synthetic fuels Together with our members, we expand the possibilities of clean energy innovation like the future of the planet depends on it. Mission Innovation Carbon Dioxide Removal Mission is proud to announce the winners of the #SMARTCDR Competition, unveiled today at the CLIMIT Summit 2025 #CDR conference in #Larvik, #Norway. Our three winners are: 👉 Equlantic The Auto Spec Carbon Analyser: An integrated measurement package for marine CDR and beyond. 👉 Hokkaido University ERW Simple monitoring, reporting and verification technology for enhanced weathering for acid mine drainage. 👉 TraceCO2 Tracer-based MRV technology for permanent CO2 removal using mineral carbonation in basalts. 💵 The winning teams will receive USD 10,000 each to continue their efforts and reach new heights! January was an incredibly eventful month! We kicked off in full force at the Natural Resources Forum and closed the month with a flurry of exciting announcements. 🚀 🌍 Cleantech Group Forum in San Diego: We had an incredible time connecting with industry leaders and discussing the future of clean technology. Key policy insights emphasized the need for policies that benefit the ecosystem and drive economic impact. 🌱 CICE-funded company Algafilm Technologies Ltd., secured seed funding to advance their innovative algae-based technologies, helping them scale their sustainable solutions across various industries, contributing to a greener future. 🔋 CICE-funded company Mangrove Lithium has secured $35M to build Canada's first lithium refining plant. This significant investment will enhance the domestic supply chain for lithium, a critical component for batteries, supporting the transition to clean energy. ❄️ Climate tech leader Svante launched a climate change awareness and education campaign "Save the Ice" in partnership with Speed Skating Canada to raise awareness about the impact of shifting climate patterns on winter sports. 🛣️ On Feb. 5, Innovate BC officially kicks off the Road to Web Summit Vancouver with a virtual town hall to help B.C. startups prepare to engage with global investors, media, industry, and entrepreneurs at the conference.
