We are very fortunate to have Peter Cowan, Innovate BC’s President & CEO, as our guest speaker in our Managing Innovation course. He shared some important ideas about running a business and emphasized the importance of protecting innovative ideas through Intellectual Property (IP). Some of my key takeaways include: 1.     Building a core team that complements each other’s skills is crucial when starting a business. 2.     Strategy is not about planning. It’s about the decisions you need to make to get to your goal. 3.     IP is not only about protecting your ideas but also an intangible asset that allows a business to grow and allows you to make money for the ideas you own. Thank you, Peter, for gracing us with your time and sharing valuable insights with our class. The Heavy Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles (#HDZEV) pilot project, delivered by Innovate BC, is working to de-risk the adoption of zero and low-emission trucks across Canada’s transportation sector through comprehensive testing of HDZEV trucks in #PrinceRupert ♻️ In September we hosted two workshops for key industry and project stakeholders – from truck manufacturers to drivers to regulators – inviting them to provide feedback on the project as well as take part in technical orientations and training relating to the adoption of HDZEV infrastructure. This opportunity to receive valuable insight, ideas and feedback served as a key avenue for strengthening the HDZEV project in support of a cleaner, more innovative British Columbia, while also equipping attendees with the latest knowledge as they continue to work with this new technology.
