We covered a broad range of topics in a series of meetings with government departments, agencies, and ministries, including #cyberleadership, the fact that #nationalsecurity equals #economicsecurity, the continuing rise of #cybercrime and ransomware, the urgent need for cyber security legislation, and an action-oriented forward-looking approach. Grateful for the productive and honest dialogue with representatives from CSE, CCCS, Public Safety, RCMP/NC3, CSIS and the Minister’s Office throughout the day and for a deeply dedicated and very passionate Council that is truly exemplary. As a follow-up to my post that e-mail filtering solutions absolutely let through more than 0.001% of phishes, here's the leakage rate we detected at Beauceron Security for the last six months. Leakage rate looks at the number of real phishes that got through e-mail filters and were reported by employees compared to the number of phishes the filters said they stopped. The range factors in the difference in our reporting rate (currently above 90% for phishing simulations) and the potential number of real phishes that got through and weren't reported. This highlights why report rate is such a crucial metric for measuring security awareness effectiveness. It's also an example of how you can use security awareness data to measure technical control effectiveness. We need technology AND people working together to reduce cyber risk and thrive in a digital world.
