Honour The Work, founded by educators and supported by industry leaders, is designed to address the skilled trades labour shortage by sparking interest in these careers at an early age. The heart of the program is the curriculum-aligned STEAMS Kits (Science – Technology – Engineering – Math – Skills), tailored for grades 1-6. These kits offer hands-on activities that bridge classroom learning with real-world skilled trades careers, complete with lesson plans, curricular outcomes, digital resources, building materials, and diverse children’s literature celebrating skilled trades. Building a Stronger Future for Canada: Advocacy in Action 🇨🇦 This week, the Calgary Construction Association (CCA) joined industry leaders from across the country for the Canadian Construction Association’s Annual Hill Day in Ottawa. Together, we are calling on the federal government to take decisive action to address the labour shortages, outdated policies, and investment gaps that are holding back Canada’s construction industry. A strong and healthy construction sector is essential to a thriving Canadian economy, contributing $162 billion annually to GDP and employing over 1.6 million Canadians. But today, our industry faces critical challenges that threaten to delay or derail essential projects like housing, transportation, and trade-enabling infrastructure. To meet Canada’s growing infrastructure demands, we are urging the federal government to: ✅ Invest in long-term infrastructure with a focus on housing, transportation, and trade-enabling projects. ✅ Grow the construction workforce to address critical labour shortages. ✅ Modernize procurement processes and cut unnecessary red tape. Canada’s builders are ready to deliver, but we need modernized policies and proactive investment to make it happen.
