About us
CALEP is a non-profit voluntary professional association for land and energy professionals in Canada, which evolved from the Alberta Landman’s Association founded by 8 members in 1948. In 1956, the first Canadian landman became a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL); and, in 1957, Canada was made, and is still today, the ninth regional district of the AAPL. Although it remains closely affiliated with the AAPL, the CAPL was incorporated on May 23, 1961, as its own independent association. On April 7, 2022 after a vote by membership in Fall of 2021, we announced our name change to Canadian Association of Land & Energy Professionals.

SAVE THE DATE! For the first time in our organization’s history, the 2025 CALEP Conference will be held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from October 5 - 8, 2025. We will be hosted by the beautiful and historical Bessborough Hotel, right on the bank of the South Saskatchewan River in the heart of Downtown. The committee and I are eager to bring you a Conference experience like never before. Our theme, “Building Bridges for the Future,” is all about connection. Saskatoon, known as "The City of Bridges," creates a symbolic connection between the Conference’s theme and the city's rich history. Saskatoon’s ten bridges have not only facilitated transportation and economic growth but also represent the city’s role as a central hub for collaboration and progress. Just as these bridges physically connect communities and drive the region’s economy, our Conference aims to bridge gaps between diverse stakeholders—communities, indigenous groups, and industries. We intend to bring connection to you through a powerful program designed to educate, expand perspectives and inspire along with carefully curated social experiences that provide ample networking, growth, and the creation of business opportunities. Saskatoon's identity as a city shaped by its bridges makes it an ideal setting to explore how convergence, through innovation, ingenuity, transparent dialogue, respect for indigenous rights, and inclusive decision-making can lead to sustainable and equitable development in our industry. The city’s history of growth through connection perfectly mirrors this Conference’s goal of fostering collaboration and trust to build a shared future. We don’t want you to leave Saskatoon just a better negotiator or business professional, we hope you will take something away that makes you a better person. Because when we become better, everything around us improves as well, and we can Build Bridges for the Future that will stand the test of time, guiding those who come after us. Can’t wait to see you there in October, 2025! Taylor Sheridan’s new TV series "Landman" has put our profession in the spotlight. While CALEP is not affiliated with or endorsing the show, its premise closely ties to our industry. Our affiliate, AAPL - American Association of Professional Landmen, has created a media preparedness plan, including social media strategies and a new podcast, Landman Now, which will unpack the show’s depiction of landwork and address ethical concerns. This heightened attention offers a unique opportunity to reshape the narrative and highlight the critical role landmen play in energy development, from oil and gas to renewables. We encourage CALEP members to stay engaged and share accurate information to uphold the high standards of our profession. Please note that all official responses regarding CALEP must come directly from the organization. For official inquiries, please contact Spryng at reception@calep.ca. #Landmen #Media #AAPL #CALEP
