About us

Cascadia Seaweed, founded in 2019, is a vertically integrated AgTech Company dedicated to addressing climate change and food security. We cultivate local species of seaweed on low-impact ocean farms in partnership with coastal First Nations. We then harvest that seaweed and manufacture agricultural products for land-based farmers that increase yields and reduce emissions. As a certified B Corp and registered Benefit Company in British Columbia, we are committed to building a profitable and scalable business that our team members, shareholders, and business partners can take pride in.

  • 🌏 Active participation in global events! Last week, our colleague Jennifer O'Neill attended the 6th India International Seaweed Expo and Summit 2025 in Chennai, hosted by the Indian Chamber of Commerce, where she fostered dialogue and developed strategies to promote the seaweed industry both in India and internationally. As the Project Manager for Cascadia Nature-based Solutions, Jennifer was invited to deliver talks about CNbS' development efforts in partnership with Plan International to upscale opportunities in the blue economy for women and youth of Kenya (the COSME Project) and Cascadia's efforts to develop the seaweed sector of western Canada. She also took part in a panel entitled "Seaweed: Vision 2030", which brought together minds from across the seaweed supply chain to provide advice toward an established and stable Indian seaweed sector, and various B2B and B2G sessions. Later this month, CEO Michael Williamson will be heading back to California to visit customers and attend the World Ag Expo in Tulare. In March, Board Director William Collins will cross the Pacific to attend the World Ocean Summit in Tokyo, and Michael and CFO Robert Napoli will attend the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit in San Francisco. We are committed to delivering high-quality liquid kelp extracts that help growers produce more food with less environmental impact, while equally fostering sector development and driving sustainable growth in the global seaweed industry. —-- #SeaweedIndustry #ClimateResiliency #CascadiaSeaweed #SustainableAgriculture #InternationalBusiness #IISES2025 #WAE25   #WorldOceanSummit

  • We love it when customers share snapshots of their new arrivals! 🚜🌿 🚛 Our first delivery of 2025 arrived in California in late January and is already making its way to farmers' fields—supporting their hard work in growing more food sustainably and cost-effectively. More good news to kick off the year! Our liquid kelp extracts have advanced to the next stage of review by CFIA in Canada, bringing us one step closer to helping even more farmers access regenerative agricultural solutions. 🇨🇦 Here's to a year of growth, innovation, and thriving farms! Stay tuned for more updates. 🌱 _____ #regenerativeagriculture #naturebasedsolutions #climateaction #seatosoil #circulareconomy #seaweed #kelp #CascadiaSeaweed

  • 🌿 Exciting update from Cascadia Seaweed’s Nature-based Solutions division! One of the key initiatives we’re working on is kelp restoration with coastal First Nations! Kelp forests are among the most productive and essential ecosystems on the planet, providing habitat for marine life, protecting coastlines, and playing a crucial role in nutrient and carbon cycling. However, many kelp populations are declining due to climate change, pollution, and other stressors. As part of Cascadia Nature-based Solutions, we are working alongside the Snuneymuxw First Nation to restore wild kelp populations and ecosystems and to support biodiversity. Using the Green Gravel method (Fredriksen et al 2020), which utilizes similar methods to kelp aquaculture, early-stage kelp is grown on different rock substrates in a lab before outplanting. After careful site selection and trials in the fall of 2023, we recently outplanted Nereocystis luetkeana (Bull kelp) at four sites in Snuneymuxw Territory. These sites will be monitored through Spring to assess growth and impact. “Our elders speak of a once abundant kelp population and having a relationship with the Salish Sea that sustained us as First Nation people. The restoration of kelp in our area is a key component to rejuvenating our salmon, water animals, and other benthic habitat,” says John White, Marine Division Director at Snuneymuxw First Nation. This work reflects our commitment to ocean health, Indigenous partnerships, and nature-based solutions that build resilience in coastal ecosystems. 🙌 ___________ #kelprestoration #NatureBasedSolutions #cascadiaseaweed #CNBS #greengravel #ClimateAction #OceanDecade

Last week I travelled to Saskatoon (where I went to high school) and attended the Western Canadian Crop Production Show - the largest gathering of suppliers and growers in the West. I had the opportunity to speak with many folks about the benefits of seaweed derived liquid kelp extracts and biostimulants. I also visited our ongoing trials at the Plant Growth Reaearch Facilities of NRC Canada while there. Thanks to Dr Shawn Clark for showing me around. All in all a great couple of days spent furthering outreach and dialogue about regenerative agriculture. #crop #nrc #biostimulant Cascadia Seaweed #regenag Shawn Clark

  • As the year winds down, we’re reflecting on a season of growth, innovation, and milestones that give us hope for the future. When Cascadia Seaweed was founded in 2019, we saw an opportunity to create a solid business that enhanced the natural environment and provided economic opportunities for coastal communities. Now, we know the opportunity — and our imperative — expands much further. Cascadia Seaweed is on a mission to build a more climate-resilient food system with seaweed-based agricultural products: liquid biostimulants for plants and soil, and dried feed supplements for animals. We are targeting sales to large-scale agriculture, starting with our liquid biostimulants, to help the industry increase yields while decreasing emissions. It’s sustainable aquaculture supporting regenerative agriculture — a circular system where every touchpoint makes a positive impact. Many thanks to our amazing team, our First Nations partners, our shareholders and customers! In 2025, we hope to support even more producers with cost effective, natural solutions to help build a climate resilient food system. 🌱 All the best for a happy and healthy holiday season!

  • Wonderful to see Michael Williamson and Robert Napoli featured in a recent Global AgInvesting article featuring our Series A fundraising efforts! "Farmers are facing a perfect storm of shrinking arable land, degraded soils and higher input costs, all exacerbated by regulatory requirements to lower emissions. Cascadia Seaweed seeks to address these headwinds through its ag products derived from cultivated seaweed, including liquid kelp extracts made from nutrient-dense brown seaweeds." "We're highlighting the role of healthy soils in food security, biodiversity and climate action under the theme Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage." - FAO DYK that our cultivated #seaweed gets processed into liquid biostimulants that aid in soil health? We've run some exciting trials recently with Kwantlen Polytechnic University on Lettuce and Tomatoes, both with positive results! "Cascadia's liquid kelp extract boosted harvest biomass on Lettuce, with soil drench outperforming foliar application, and increased tomato yield, especially when used with reduced-strength fertilizer." Next up, a strawberry trial with the National Research Council Canada / Conseil national de recherches Canada!
