We need a strong, accessible mental health care system. 🧠 1 in 3 people living in Canada will experience a mental illness or substance use disorder in their lifetime. 🚨 BC has the highest toxic drug deaths in Canada, with over 15,000 lives lost since 2016. 📉 37% of Canadians saw their mental health decline during the pandemic. Mental health for all.
About us
Canadian Mental Health Association - BC Division Our vision: Mentally healthy people in a healthy society. Founded in 1918, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is a national charity that helps maintain and improve mental health for all Canadians. CMHA British Columbia Division (CMHA BC) works together with a network of local branches across BC, to provide a wide range of innovative mental health and substance use supports and services to British Columbians. Every day we help British Columbians access the resources they need to maintain and improve mental health, build resilience and support recovery from mental illness and addiction. Together with our family of 14 CMHA branches in BC, we help over 120,000 people across 100 BC communities each year. Our work is focused on prevention, early identification and intervention, treatment and recovery as well as advocating for mental health and substance use care to be treated equally to physical health care. We strongly believe that mental health begins where you live, learn, work and play. Together, we are making a difference.

The state of mental health varies across the country and where you live matters — but it shouldn't. CMHA National's State of Mental Health in Canada Report found that while British Columbia leads the way in areas like mental health promotion, early intervention services, and crisis care reform, critical gaps remain. How does BC stack up against other provinces and territories?
