DENMARK IS OFFICIALLY AN ELECTED MEMBER OF THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL 🕊️ This New Year’s Day, we are truly honored to take our seat on the Security Council. Throughout the term of 2025-2026 we will work hard to live up to this huge responsibility and uphold the higher principles of the UN Charter. In a time of multiple global crises and growing polarization, Denmark remains as committed as ever to rules-based multilateralism. We will do our part with a pragmatism and preparedness to work together to promote international peace and security, and to protect and respect human rights and dignity. The world needs a Council that reflects the world of today which is more fit to address the current and coming crises across the globe. Denmark will push for a more accountable, effective, inclusive, and representative Security Council. We look forward to the cooperation with our colleagues in and outside the Council on issues concerning peace and security for people and planet. #un #unsc

This morning, the Embassy in Ottawa along with the Trade Council in Toronto hosted a webinar for members of our Arctic Business Alliance.   The webinar was an opportunity for the Embassy to introduce our new Ambassador to Canada, Nikolaj Harris who arrived just a few weeks ago – he gave an analysis on the political situation in Canada – both on domestic matters and also on foreign affairs, particular around the incoming administration in the US, Canada’s largest trading partner Other topics included a briefing by Deputy head of mission Jacob Lindqvist on Canadas new Arctic Policy which included announcements of an Arctic Ambassador and opening of Canadian consulates in Nuuk and Anchorage. Health diplomacy in Canada The Permanent Secretary for the Danish Ministry of Interior and Health Svend Særkjær visited Canada last week to strengthen the Danish-Canadian cooperation in the field of health, and was accompanied by Ambassador Nikolaj Harris, Consul General Karina Bech, Health diplomat Helle Stentoft Dalum and Life Science Advisor Katie Tucker. Good talks about healthcare in Canada and the new Danish healthcare reform, and the potential for further collaborations. Lots of inspiration from the clinical practice to bring to Denmark. 🚢 To support trade, tourism, and infrastructure needs Sikuki Nuuk Harbour A/S will undergo an expansion project that started this year and is expected to continue until 2026. By the end of this year, a new pontoon-based quay will be installed to accommodate smaller boats and relieve the pressure on the inner harbour. Once the entire harbour project is completed in 2026, Sikuki Nuuk Harbour will be able to better accommodate vessels of all sizes. ABA member Sikuki Nuuk Harbour is a hub for the maritime industry and part of the critical infrastructure in Greenland. Additionally, the harbour has a significant impact on Greenland’s economy as it is a port of entry for most goods and materials entering the country. The port serves customers within the maritime industry, within the transportation, fishing, tourism and construction sectors.
