Yesterday, EDW hosted Strategic Foreign Direct Investment for Manitoba: Ensuring Economic Prosperity, in partnership with Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada (GAC), the Trade Commissioner Service | Service des délégués commerciaux, and the Government of Manitoba. Thank you to our speakers—EDW's own Alberto Velasco-Acosta, Christine Perrin, and Ryan Kuffner, as well as Alexandre Côté, Jonathon Kupi  and Bernard Li—for their insights on FDI opportunities, challenges, and the importance of collaboration.   Key points discussed: - Manitoba’s talent is a driving factor for investment. - Promoting our province’s strengths globally is essential. - Collaboration across all sectors strengthens economic growth. As Minister Jamie Moses said, “When businesses invest in Manitoba, they invest in its people.” Together, we can position Manitoba as a leader in attracting investment.

We are excited to announce that Economic Development Winnipeg's Vice President of Tourism, Natalie Thiesen has been appointed to the Board of Directors of The Forks North Portage Partnership. With a strong background in tourism leadership, Natalie leads our Tourism Winnipeg team in boosting leisure travel, business events, sports and special events through strategic partnerships. Natalie holds a Master of Arts in Tourism Management from Royal Roads University and a Bachelor of Commerce from the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University. Natalie previously lent her leadership and tourism expertise as the past President of the Festival du Voyageur Inc. Board. She also currently serves on the Board of Directors of Destination Canada. “The Forks is a cornerstone of Winnipeg’s identity, embodying our community’s spirit through art, culture and history. It’s a place where people gather, connect and celebrate year-round. I’m thrilled to support its mission to enrich our city’s tourism landscape and to help foster meaningful experiences for everyone who visits, strengthening its legacy as an iconic destination for locals and visitors alike.” The Forks North Portage Partnership plays a pivotal role in the development of downtown Winnipeg, overseeing the renewal and management of The Forks and North Portage sites. Last night we gathered with corporate partners, government shareholders, board members and staff to celebrate the collaborative work shaping our city’s future. It was a meaningful opportunity to connect with passionate individuals and reflect on our collective achievements. The dedication of our business and tourism community is key to driving Winnipeg’s success as the best place to live, work and visit. We’re excited about the opportunities ahead as we continue working toward a shared vision for our city.

On this Remembrance Day, we take time to remember and acknowledge those who served and sacrificed for our country and also those who continue to serve. In honour of this day, our Economic Development Winnipeg / Tourism Winnipeg offices will be closed and returning to regular business hours on Tuesday, November 12.

The recent U.S. election results have Manitobans reflecting on potential impacts close to home.
