"Utility resource planning is central to Canada’s ability to achieve its climate and energy commitments." Efficiency Canada's latest report warns that utilities are underestimating future power demand and failing to put demand-side resources on par with new supply – thus impeding Canada’s electric utilities from preparing for a net-zero future. The report, co-authored by Efficiency Canada Director of Research James Gaede and Senior Director of Policy Strategy Brendan Haley, says gaps in the system could hinder the sector’s progress at a crucial moment in the net-zero transition. 📖 Read more in The Energy Mix: https://lnkd.in/g8RWMPyQ ➡️ Download our report: https://lnkd.in/gZweEG2f

[New report] As Canada works towards a net-zero future by 2050, utility resource planning is central to the country's ability to achieve its climate and energy commitments. Without proactive and integrated planning, the country risks falling behind its net-zero goals, increasing consumer costs, and missing opportunities to leverage demand-side solutions for a more efficient and resilient energy system. Our new report examines how Canadian utilities currently plan for the future and identifies key gaps that could hinder progress. We also explore the integration of demand-side resources, the risks associated with reactive planning, and the necessity for more coordinated and transparent decision-making processes. Authored by James Gaede and Brendan Haley. Read the report: https://lnkd.in/gZweEG2f

Help protect British Columbia's energy future. Recently, the Step Code faced significant uncertainty in the lead-up to the provincial election. While it remains intact, it’s clear that we cannot take its future for granted. The B.C. Step Code sets the standards that drive innovation, create sustainable job opportunities, and reduce carbon emissions in the province. MLAs don’t often hear directly from the people who work hard every day to bring energy-efficient buildings to life. Your story and expertise can help them understand the Step Code's real-world impact and why it’s essential to our shared goals. Take two minutes to write your MLA: https://lnkd.in/gqbnFaUB Together, we can ensure B.C. continues to lead the way in energy efficiency.
