Week after week, the Produce Box is the #1 selling item on Flashfood. In December alone, we've sold 29,000+ boxes of affordable, fresh produce 🍎 🫑 🍊 🥕 🥔 🥒 🧅 Shoutout our partners Meijer and Lucky Supermarkets for this incredible batch of produce boxes, available now on the Flashfood app. According to Partnership for a Healthier America, fewer than 1 in 10 people in the US eat the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables. At the same time, fresh produce makes up a whopping 35% of our annual food waste in the US (ReFED).

Yesterday we attended the Annual Leadership Summit in #NewYorkCity, hosted by Rabobank Wholesale Banking North America. At the event, Flashfood was honored to receive the 2024 Rabobank Award for Emerging Leadership in Innovation, alongside fellow honorees The Wonderful Company (Leadership in Sustainability) and Lineage (Excellence in Corporate Leadership). Thank you to the Rabobank team for having us! Our CEO Nicholas Bertram said of the win: “Our company was born out of the simple idea that we should not be throwing away food in a world where people are going hungry. The beauty of innovation is that it’s not always about building a big, flashy idea, it’s about using the things that are available right now and making something better out of them. That’s what Flashfood offers – building the future of food from waste.”

Last month, we partnered with San Francisco restaurant Shuggie's Trash Pie + Natural Wine on a special, limited edition produce box for Flashfood shoppers at Lucky Supermarkets. Co-Owner Kayla Abe curated a produce box for Flashfood that offered the ingredients for the Shuggie's “Avohottie Pizza”, created by Kayla and Chef David Murphy. Flashfood Produce Boxes -- a 10 lb box of mixed produce -- are the most popular item on our app. They sell out nearly every day! Part of what our shoppers love so much, besides the affordable fruits and veg, is that each box is unique. They are built by the store team member based on what items they are pulling from their produce section each day. With the photo, shoppers know exactly what they're getting, but they get to choose which box excites them the most (or get them all). This campaign plays on the natural variability of the produce box by offering a curated version, designed by the rad chef team at our favorite category-defining restaurant. Thank you to everyone that came out for the launch party and thank you Shuggie's and Kayla for your wonderful contributions to the culinary world. We're proud to know you!

A few weeks ago we shared a new version of the Flashfood app. It was beautiful, but we also received some constructive feedback from our community about things they missed about the old Flashfood app. Our engineering team has been hard at work and today we’re releasing version 3.1. It fixes a couple of things from version 3.0, it brings back features we didn’t know our shoppers loved, and it adds some new features that they've have been asking for since the beginning of time! Things we fixed: 🐛 A bug that caused some pictures not to load for some of our stores. 🖼 Image quality. We know, they’ve been blurry. Now they’re better! 🗺 Issues that caused the map screen to freeze or jump around. What we brought back: ✅ We updated our Orders screen to show all same-store orders together, even if they were purchased separately. ♻ Instant auto refresh on the store pages so newly posted items show up faster. Last but not least, our new features: 🔍 ZOOM! Our community's been asking for zoom capabilities since the beginning of Flashfood. We are beyond excited to share it with them. Zoom away! 🛎 Helpful order pickup reminders in the app. When one has orders ready for pickup, there will be a banner and a badge on their order tab so they never miss a pickup. Thanks goes out to our stellar community for this one, you make us better!

The Leftovers: Episode 2 is out now! We had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Noreen Springstead, President and CEO of Partnership for a Healthier America, a national nonprofit that leverages collective power to create more access to nutritious, affordable, equitable and culturally affirming food. We here at Flashfood are deeply curious about how collective action and partnership work at their best and Noreen is an incredibly insightful leader in that space. It was an honor to grab some of her time for Episode 2. Great chat! Hosted by COO Jordan Schenck, the full episode is available now on YouTube, below ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/egGw6ybw

Today we're thinking of our friend and colleague Tess Fox, who tragically passed away in September. Today is her birthday and we miss her very much. Last week we learned that Tess was named one of the 2024 The Shelby Report Emerging Leaders, alongside two of her Flashfood colleagues Calli Brannan and Kate Leadbeater. This award feels in some way like a trivial thing to acknowledge in the wholeness of all that we miss about Tess, but at the same time, the best way we know how to celebrate her is to recognize her work and her contributions to the world. She was a creative force of hustle, energy and good nature. Amongst the loss felt by her friends and family at Flashfood and beyond, we wish the world could see her future contributions because we know they would have been wonderful. We miss you, Tess.
