This year's DevFest YYC was an incredible experience! I enjoyed every moment of it from the insightful sessions to connecting with so many amazing people in the tech community. The focus on integrating AI into projects was especially inspiring. It gave me fresh ideas for my current and future projects, and I’m excited to explore how AI can enhance them in innovative ways. #DevFestYYC 2024 Recap! GDGYYC | Calgary's Google Cloud Developer Group premier event! I missed some of the keynote speakers, but I had the chance to learn about Mob Programming from Susan Fung at SkipTheDishes. What Is Mob Programming? 🖥️ Team Collaboration: A small team works together on a single project in real time, sharing one computer. 🛠️ Role-Based Approach: Driver: Writes the code based on team input. Navigator: Guides the team’s direction, translating ideas into actionable instructions. 🤝 Expands on Pair Programming: Unlike pair programming (two people), mob programming involves the whole team, allowing for diverse input and creativity. 🔄 Real-Time Problem Solving and Implementation: When the entire team is involved, decisions, approvals, and implementation can happen immediately, speeding up the development process. A huge shoutout to Miraj Kumar and Sanghamitra Chakrabarty (PMP)®(CSM)®🏆🙌 for putting this event on my radar. Without you, I might still be Googling “What is DevFest?” 😆 . You’re the real MVPs! 💻✨ Greg Bennett 🦸♂️, your efforts to support the City of Calgary's developer community deserve a standing ovation 👏 (and maybe a developer-themed superhero cape 🦸♂️). In a city where the tech scene is booming, Calgary’s ᐳᐅ!DEVFESTYYC is right there alongside it, proving just how far innovation can go with community-driven talent and drive. What started in 2018 with 125 attendees has grown into one of the largest DevFests in North America, now drawing more than 850 participants and a growing roster of international speakers, said event producer Greg Bennett. Developers from Silicon Valley to Boston — and everywhere in between — are making Calgary a must-visit stop on their calendars to share ideas and shape the future of tech. The event is also now a part of #InnovationWeekYYC and took place at both Platform Calgary Innovation Centre and Calgary Central Library. This year, unsurprisingly, conversations about AI stole the spotlight. But they are a reflection of how much the technology has evolved in just the past year. Discussions shifted from “What is AI?” to “How do we build with it responsibly?” said Sakshi Gupta, organizer of Silicon Valley’s DevFest, emphasizing the need for inclusive and ethical practices in AI development. Looking ahead at what comes next in AI, keynote speaker Tom Krywitsky highlighted multimodal AI — systems that can process and integrate multiple types of data like text, video and audio — as the next frontier. “What gets me excited is truly jumping around between [AI] modalities and seeing what the models can actually do,” he said, capturing the spirit of exploration and creativity that defines events like ᐳᐅ!DEVFESTYYC.
