Quebec's English-language theatre company for all audiences since 1980!

About us

Founded in 1980, Geordie Productions is one of Canada’s leading professional producers of Theatre for Young Audiences. Its goal is to fire up the imagination, entertain and challenge audiences of all ages. Geordie believes in the power of theatre to encourage dialogue between youths and their parents, their teachers and among their peers, which is why every year the company creates plays which reflect the reality that young people currently live in. The Geordie 2Play School Tour is Canada’s largest running annual theatre tour, lasting 7 months while travelling an average of 27 800 kilometers to perform over 300 performances to more than 60 000 kids. It presents two plays, one for kids and one for teens, in schools and community centres across Eastern Canada, exploring and initiating dialogue about thought-provoking subjects as varied as: bullying; cultural diversity, identity, and other youth specific themes. The Geordie Mainstage Series brings original and engaging theatre productions to Montreal families every season. Praised by children and adults alike, some of these productions then tour abroad to the delight of audiences in Canadian and American cities. The Geordie Theatre School offers kids and teens the chance to explore live performance and the acting process with some of Geordie’s favorite theatre professionals. Each year GTS offers two sessions, one in the fall from September-December and one in the winter from January-May, both of which culminate in a public presentation. Throughout its history, Geordie has retold classic stories, performed wild adventures and spun new myths, always paying close attention to the important role theatre plays in the lives of people of all ages. It works with great artists of many disciplines and varied experiences to create plays that are vibrant and engaging. It looks to constantly reach out to broaden its audience base by bringing productions to as many areas as it can reach.

  • What is Jordan’s Principle? After the passing of Jordan River Anderson, Canada's House of Common passed Jordan's Principle, a child-first policy to ensure Indigenous youth have full and immediate access to the healthcare and social services they need. In April 2025, Geordie is slated to present our show Jordan and due to the withdrawal of a major funder, we need your help. Geordie wants to ensure that the story of Jordan River Anderson can be still shared. This story is far too important not to share, regardless of the financial implications: there is no reconciliation without truth, and it’s unacceptable that the government is still failing to meet the healthcare needs of Indigenous youth and their communities in their times of need. By sharing this story with hundreds of audience members, Geordie hopes to raise awareness around Jordan’s Principle, and the work that still needs to be done to continue to strive for reconciliation. • Who is Jordan River Anderson? Jordan was a young boy from Norway House Cree Nation in Manitoba who was born with significant health issues. Due to ongoing disagreements between the provincial and federal governments as to who would be responsible for paying for Jordan's at-home care, Jordan unfortunately passed away at the age of 5 in the hospital, having never been able to live in his own home. • Why Now? Today is #GivingTuesday, and Geordie is launching a month-long fundraising campaign to help us present “Jordan” this April. • 💚🌎We are so excited to announce that Geordie Theatre is taking the pledge to become a Canadian Green Alliance member. Our aim is to take ownership of our footprint as theatre makers, community leaders, and as artists. As a CGA member, we will reimagine our theatrical process to include a reduction of our impact on the planet, and an emphasis on the health of our community. ♻️Geordie is already actively working to minimize its environmental footprint, particularly as a touring company. We are dedicated to compensating for any unavoidable emissions by supporting organizations such as Compensation CO2 Québec, which focuses on reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
