As a physician, I’ve witnessed Canadians struggle to access healthcare firsthand, often delaying treatment for issues until they become urgent and/or untreatable. In 2015, we launched Maple with the belief that technology could play a key role in alleviating some of these pressures. While technology has indeed advanced access to care, critical gaps in our system remain, and the urgency for change grows ever greater. None of this is a surprise to any Canadian who has opened a newspaper in the past decade. It’s no secret that Canada has a healthcare access problem. But what hasn't been explored is the "so what". What is this actually doing to Canadians’ health and well-being? What does our lack of healthcare access do to the long-term sustainability of our healthcare system? Today, Maple has released a report that examines the barriers Canadians face in being proactive about their health, exploring the impact this has on them and on Canada as a whole. Spoiler alert - the impact is real and frightening, in terms of avoidable illness and death, and in terms of billions of dollars in avoidable health spending. I’ve linked the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dVpSU8h8

Several areas need improvement in the Nigerian health system. Universal health coverage requires that everyone should get access to essential health services. These essential health services must be of high quality. Still, there are many challenges to delivering quality services as described in this Policy Brief. One important aspect, often missing in addressing quality issues are specific, measurable ways of determining levels of quality and identifying what it takes to remedy quality gaps. Pharmaccess' Safecare initiative aims to provide such a tool. In this Policy Brief, we analyse the Safecare program from its experience supporting quality management and improvement over the past decade. The lessons we identified are helpful for the government in its ongoing healthcare reforms, of which quality is a key pillar, but also for all including private healthcare businesses) for whom quality healthcare is a key concern. Our journey towards secure and seamless electronic health information access just got easier with the unveiling of the Shared Pan-Canadian Interoperability Roadmap. By making patient data accessible to healthcare providers across the country, this initiative aims to improve healthcare outcomes. Sharing my latest blogpost - Analysis of Public Healthcare Expenditure – A Case of Indian States Brief - Data analysis suggests that those States of Indian Union, which are having high Per Capita Net State Domestic Product (PC-NSDP) are having higher Public Healthcare Expenditure (PHE). And, those States with higher PHE are putting greater efforts to provide public healthcare services beyond the community and primary healthcare (that is at secondary and tertiary levels of healthcare services).
