We're thrilled to see our mass timber being used in innovative projects like the Houston Zoo! The exposed mass timber offers a sustainable, natural solution for the animals who will soon call this facility home. The Houston’s Zoo’s Jack’s Café, is a 10,125-square-foot mass timber structure that emphasizes sustainable materials, and integrates energy-efficient features and aligns with the zoo’s conservation mission. The structure will be made primarily of sustainably harvested mass timber, a material with a lower overall carbon footprint when compared to concrete or steel. The Zoo’s redevelopment aligns with its broader mandate to enhance its conservation and sustainability goals, including reducing the Zoo’s carbon footprint. Environmentally conscious construction practices including the use of Cross-laminated timber and Glulam are a natural fit for its mandate. Timberlab recently finished mass timber for the new Multnomah County East County Library project in Gresham, Oregon. This project is special to us for many reasons. It marks the beginning of our step into mass timber manufacturing since acquiring American Laminator's legacy glulam operations here in the region. What a privilege to work on delivering the quality glulam on this structure with a team of brilliant individuals. The level of collaboration we were able to achieve between our manufacturing and fabrication teams really helped the overall success of the project and delivered it faster than scheduled. Integrated Design Cubed | IDCUBED is proud to announce that the first large-scale modular mass timber project in North America is under construction in Big Sky, Montana. Comprised of 120 cross laminated timber (CLT) modules, this project will provide high-quality, affordable housing for 96 workers. Our use of precise mass timber components in a modular process, reduces the number of parts by 80% as compared to conventional modular production. This dramatically decreases labor needs and shortens the time of construction, while delivering exceptional quality.   IDCUBED designed the building as well as the processes of module fabrication and building assembly on-site.   The project would not have been possible without the involvement of two exceptional collaborators: Highline Partners and Kalesnikoff Mass Timber. Highline has been outstanding in managing everything on site, from foundation work to the highly organized system of storing and setting modules, and the final assembly of the entire project. Kalesnikoff produced all modules with a high level of quality and precision. The new Marpole Community Centre in South Vancouver ⁠is well underway, with the installation of the long-span steel beams for the doubly curved cantilever roof currently ongoing. ⁠ ⁠ This facility is set to replace an outdated structure with a new two-story building that is almost double the size.
