We're thrilled to see our mass timber being used in innovative projects like the Houston Zoo! The exposed mass timber offers a sustainable, natural solution for the animals who will soon call this facility home. The Houston’s Zoo’s Jack’s Café, is a 10,125-square-foot mass timber structure that emphasizes sustainable materials, and integrates energy-efficient features and aligns with the zoo’s conservation mission. The structure will be made primarily of sustainably harvested mass timber, a material with a lower overall carbon footprint when compared to concrete or steel. The Zoo’s redevelopment aligns with its broader mandate to enhance its conservation and sustainability goals, including reducing the Zoo’s carbon footprint. Environmentally conscious construction practices including the use of Cross-laminated timber and Glulam are a natural fit for its mandate. A big thank you to our partner TimberBLDR for the great photos!
