Earlier today at Greater Vancouver Board of Trade's Energy & Natural Resources Forum, Michael Goehring, President & CEO of MABC joined Maureen Daschuk and Bill Clendinning of BC Hydro to discuss the utility’s plans to meet the future electricity needs of British Columbians and grow our province’s economy. The panel touched on BC Hydro’s new 10-year capital plan, managing uncertainty, grid expansion, reliability, cost and resource options. According to Michael Goehring, “nearly 1,500 MW of incremental electricity demand alone is expected from new or expanding critical mineral projects in Northwest BC in or near Tahltan and Nisga’a Territory, not to mention new demand from the Port of Prince Rupert and new LNG proposals.” Thanks Greater Vancouver Board of Trade for hosting a great event that underscored the importance of natural resources to BC’s economy and prosperity. #naturalresources #hydroelectricity #cleanenery #bcmining #criticalminerals

MABC’s President & CEO, Michael Goehring shared his view on the new Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals with Rob Shaw: “Having a dedicated ministry whose focal point is mining, smelting and mine development is a very good thing and I think it shows that this government is serious about the opportunity critical minerals and mining offers British Columbians…We’re calling on the government of B.C. to really take a deep look at the mines permitting and authorizations process to reduce the time it takes to receive authorization. And that can be done, and must be done while maintaining environmental and safety protection...going forward this government would be well-advised to focus on B.C.’s natural resource industries, given our economy, and given the significant fiscal challenge the province faces at the moment.” Read more here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/g4MmWkNk #bcpoli #criticalminerals #bcmining
