This holiday season, we are planting trees on behalf of our employees, clients and partners to make a meaningful contribution to the planet. Through a $10,000 charitable donation to One Tree Planted, our support of the Forest Fire Fund will aid reforestation and help facilitate a healthy ecosystem recovery. Forest fires are increasingly larger and more intense due in part to climate change. Many of our communities have been affected and we want to give back by planting trees where they are needed most. Giving back for impact, our gift is both symbolic and sustaining with long-lasting benefits for future generations. Learn how trees play a vital role in biodiversity, wellness – and carbon reduction to help fight climate change. https://lnkd.in/g_SS2SjK Happy Holidays. #CorporateSocialResponsibility #Reforestation #Biodiversity #OneTreePlanted #NORR

The rehabilitation of the Daniel J. MacDonald Government of Canada building, headquarters of Veterans Affairs Canada, is underway in Charlottetown, PEI. At the heart of the complex, the steel structure for the five-story atrium is taking shape, replacing the aging glazed sloped glass roof with the practicality of a flat-roofed design. Connecting the five-story north block and the three-story south block, the atrium will flood the space with natural light, creating a welcoming hub for veterans, government workers and visitors. Designed for gathering, the space will feature a performance stage and soft seating, providing a vibrant backdrop for town halls, memorials and community events. The interior will blend white oak with copper, bronze and zinc finishes, representing the noble metals that honor the legacy of military medals. Sustainability is a key focus, with geothermal wells, storm-resistant glazing and energy efficient cladding to support GHG reduction while preserving the original Brutalist modern design from the 1980s. Once renewed, the building will stand as a modern tribute to Canada’s veterans in a sustainable, vibrant setting. https://lnkd.in/gpWZ8KQd Veterans Affairs Canada / Anciens Combattants Canada, Pomerleau, Andrew Schmidt, Jonathan Hughes, Michael Cogan, Michael Perera, Armi Mortel-Castro, David Hileman, Faisal Jahangir, Liviu Manescu, Maryam Sadat, P.Eng., Nick McGoey, Sarah Stoops, P.Eng, Paul Frasie, M.Eng., P.Eng., LEED GA, Salil Ranadive #VeteransAffairs #GovernmentOfCanada #Charlottetown #BuildingRenewal #ArchitecturalRevitalization #PublicBuilding #ConstructionProgress #Atrium #Architecture #NORR

The new generation is unlocking the potential of sustainable design. Midwest students in architecture and urban planning participated in a USGBC multi-state Student Design Competition embracing LEED v4.1, with NORR teaming up as a main sponsor for the fourth consecutive year. Laura Long, LEED AP, GGP, Senior Associate and Senior Designer Sustainability, was the Planning Committee Chair, Blake Jackson, AIA, LEED Fellow, WELL Faculty, CPHC, Director of Sustainability, was a jury member, and Samantha Waatti, Retail Project Manager, provided thought leadership on the value of building life cycle assessments to reduce embodied carbon and make informed decisions on material selections and specifications. It was impressive to see a variety of imaginative, site and climate-appropriate solutions. When utilized properly, LEED—and sustainability in general—can drive creativity instead of being a limitation. According to the UN, 1 in 3 people worldwide struggle with moderate to severe food insecurity. One of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals is to End Hunger (Goal #2). While it takes planning and time to establish sustainable agriculture in global communities, there are immediate approaches to address hunger. This Giving Tuesday, our NORRForward team organized a food drive, NORR Gives Back, to support our local communities. https://lnkd.in/guVket8h #GivingTuesday #SpirtOfGiving #MakeADifference #FoodDrive #Donations #CSR #NORRForward #NORR
