Celebrating a Major Milestone for Offshore Wind in Atlantic Canada! 🌊 🌬️ This week Bill C-49, a historic piece of federal legislation, officially became law marking a pivotal moment for offshore wind development in Canada! This Act amends the Canada—Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Resources Accord Implementation Acts, broadening the scope of the provincial offshore petroleum boards to now regulate offshore renewable energy, including offshore wind. The passage of C-49 delivers the certainty and confidence needed to unlock Atlantic Canada’s vast offshore wind potential, setting the stage for enormous environmental, economic, and community benefits. It signals the government’s unified commitment at both the federal and provincial levels, with the Government of Nova Scotia already passing mirror legislation through Bill 471. At Novaporte, we are proud to be at the forefront of this industry, establishing the essential enabling infrastructure that will support offshore wind development for decades to come. We are pleased to announce the appointment of Philippe Farin Farschi as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO)! In this role, Philippe will collaborate with CEO, Albert Barbusci, on spearheading business development initiatives for both the Novaporte Wind Terminal and Novaporte Energy Park, under its parent company, Sydney Harbour Investment Partners (SHIP). Philippe joins SHIP with over two decades of global experience in major infrastructure projects, particularly in offshore wind energy and oil & gas. Most recently, he served as Director of Business Development and Technology at Reventus Power, where his leadership led to the successful acquisition of key offshore wind leases in California and Australia. His expertise in securing strategic partnerships, combined with a deep understanding of renewable energy technologies, positions him as a key player in SHIP’s ambitious growth plans. A great article in today in Canada's National Observer highlighting the Government of Nova Scotia's continued commitment to advancing offshore wind and green energy forward for our province and how the Novaporte development will play a critical role in enabling industry development in our region. We continue to work with the global sector to find ways in which we can support the supply chain needs for this industry and seize these opportunities to not only support offshore wind development here in Canada, but also the USA and Europe. With 500 acres of laydown area and 1600 metres of front-facing quayside, Novaporte, in partnership with Membertou First Nation, will be the hub marshalling port with the ability to handle 5GW of foundation and WTG components and support the needs of multiple developers in the Northeast USA and Canada. Strategically located in the Sydney Harbour in the Province of Nova Scotia, 6 miles off the Great Circle route, Novaporte, will be the enabling infrastructure required to support offshore wind development, alongside our exclusive terminal operators, Blue Water Shipping– the largest and most experienced wind terminal operator in the world. Phase 1 completion is anticipated for 2027.
