Engage Memorial Symposium 2025: Practice and Place is an opportunity for Memorial’s many publicly engaged students, faculty/ASMs and staff to share experiences and learn from each other. This two-day event is being held at Signal Hill Campus on May 28th and 29th, 2025. This year’s Symposium will feature: - A keynote address by SSHRC-CRSH president, Dr. Ted Hewitt, addressing the question “What do Universities Owe the Public" - Hands-on workshops about the practice of knowledge mobilization, led by national experts from Research Impact Canada - A plenary panel exploring the connections between Memorial University and the development of Newfoundland and Labrador - Presentations, panels and performances showcasing the public engagement expertise and experiences here at Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador In person and virtual registration options are available. Fostering Collaboration and Community: Exploring Co-operative Models in the Classroom Webinar 💻 This one-hour webinar focuses on fostering co-operation in the classroom and beyond to create inclusive, collaborative learning environments. Primarily designed for teachers of grades 5-12, the strategies and activities can easily be adapted for younger students. Participants will explore practical approaches to teaching students how to work together effectively making collective decisions, amplifying all voices, and listening to understand. Teachers will learn how to focus with intention on building these skills, which not only strengthen classroom communities but also prepare students to contribute meaningfully beyond the school environment. Additionally, the session connects classroom practices to the foundational guidelines and principles of co-operatives, highlighting their relevance globally and within our province. Parents, camp leaders and co-operative partners will enjoy contemplations about how the foundations of cooperatives start with early learning environments.
