Mark your calendars, because Project Agape is delighted to announce a very exciting event coming up in the new year ☀️ Àdúró is an Ondo Yoruba term which means community, and it’s the spirit of this upcoming event. The event will feature talented Black queer creatives from our Black Joy and Healing Project who will perform original works that explore identity, resilience, and joy. A brunch will be served by one of Ottawa’s best chefs, whose menu has been thoughtfully designed to complement Àdúró. The afternoon will continue with an engaging panel discussion featuring community leaders and community members who bring fresh perspectives to contemporary experiences. During the event, guests will also have an opportunity to explore our silent auction featuring items from amazing community supporters, and will be able to participate in an exciting raffle draw to win prizes. Both the auction and raffle showcase generous donations from local businesses that support our work, with all proceeds directly supporting our community programs. This event is funded by The Enchante Network and is free to all folks! Please note that this is a dry event. December 17 is the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers, a day created to call attention to the hate crimes and abuse faced by sex workers. On this day, we bring awareness to the anti-trans hate faced by sex workers, especially Black sex workers, trans sex workers and migrant sex workers, who are further marginalized and vulnerable due to compound oppression. The last day of 16 Days of Activism Against GBV is also Human Rights Day. November 25th marks the beginning of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. It also makes the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. On this day, we are sharing how we as a community can and must acknowledge and make space for Black survivors. But allyship and solidarity are not limited to today, or to the 16 days of this campaign. It is work we need to do everyday. Project Agape will be observing these 16 days by educating our members and ourselves on the various ways Gender-Based Violence (GBV) manifests worldwide. Our Healing Circles are officially back this fall 🍂 Healing Circles are discussion groups for Black women and gender-diverse people who have experienced oppression to come together and speak on their experiences. They are facilitated by Black women and gender-diverse folks, for Black women and gender-diverse folks. The Healing Circles will create a safe space for Black individuals to meet and be in community with each other in a space filled with shared experiences. We aim to give Black community members a seat at the table when it comes to determining their needs as survivors and the best ways those needs can be filled, while discovering connections with others who look like them and share their experience. This space is for you. Come as you are, we are here to listen and be in community with you. Our goal is for every community member to leave this space feeling seen and heard. We are looking for experienced people who are passionate about survivor justice and Black-centred work.
