We really enjoyed last week’s #Capitalunlocked2024 Summit presented by New Power Labs. Many great reflections on the need to create a more equitable investment sector. During a coffee break, Alexa Nguyen-Tang and Sohailia Saywack spoke with Rohan N. of Boann Social Impact about how the due diligence process can be adapted to better accommodate the needs of first-time and diverse fund managers 

We’ve become a signatory to the Operating Principles of Impact Management.   The nine Impact Principles provide a framework investors use to integrate impact considerations throughout the investment life cycle. The principles have been adopted by almost 200 impact investing organizations in 40 countries.   By signing, we’ve committed to align to the Impact Principles, and to publicly disclose how we are aligning. We appreciated the really engaged group at yesterday's IMM session organized by Spring Collective, where Ammara Shirazi discussed our approach to impact assessment and measurement. Lots of good discussions, including: thinking about impact in a comprehensive way to include operational practices not just products and services; and exploring how an entrepreneur's impact intentionality is key for delivering positive impact on the ground over time.

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to act as judges at the Good & Well Inc. x Kotn Impact Challenge and to speak as part of a career panel. We left the event energized and hopeful after connecting with students from various universities across Canada who are keen to create social impact in so many ways. We were encouraged to see their innovative approaches and enthusiasm for impact investing.

So much happening at #SOCAP24. Chelsea Longaphy, CIM and Kelly Gauthier are loving the strong calls they keep hearing for action over ideation; are appreciating hearing from so many people from the Global South; have been jazzed by some of the 'big ideas' in the sessions; and are eager to continuing engaging with others today on how to work together to progress social impact.
