Plot twists welcome.
About us
We are creators, visionaries, storytellers, bridge-builders, innovators, and problem-solvers. Most importantly, we are humans who connect other humans to one other. At RRC Polytech, CreComm is where critical thinking, creative solutions, and narrative come to life. It's where Manitoba's next generation of communicators build the skills, knowledge, and experience they need to launch into difference-making careers. It's where voices grow louder and good things happen. The Creative Communications program launched in 1969, and its graduates and students have shaped public discourse in Manitoba ever since. Welcome to the conversation.

Earlier this month, I had the chance to attend the Elements of Indigenous Style Book Launch. It was a great experience—I learned a lot, met interesting people, and got to think about things from new perspectives. I’m thankful to RRC Polytech Creative Communications for opening doors to experiences like this and introducing me to people and ideas I might not have encountered otherwise. It’s a good reminder of how important it is to listen to and embrace diverse voices and stories.

We are currently working on a civic action project in our Professional Development class, with the goal of learning where organizations, government, businesses and advocacy groups intersect to tackle a civic issue. Our group has identified issues related to youth aging out of CFS care and we are interviewing local organizations (such as Voices: Manitoba's Youth in Care Network) for firsthand perspectives. Here we were on our way to an interview with the CEO of General Child and Family Services Authority. Coming up tomorrow: meeting with the Acting Assistant Deputy Minister of Families! 🏆 Big congrats to the Working Draft writers and editors on bringing home four awards at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards. Here's a bit of background: What is Working Draft? Working Draft is a Creative Communications student-produced web magazine that publishes new pieces in March and April each year, focusing on longreads with accompanying photographs, graphics, and other multimedia content. Each year’s content focuses loosely on a theme drawn from contemporary issues. Stay tuned for this year's theme! Who is it for? Working Draft is for readers who care about Manitoba perspectives, great storytelling, contemporary issues and culture, the media landscape, and the broad and quickly evolving field of communications. Where do I find it? ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e4fVnYeR

Last November, our second-year CreComm students took on their three-week work placements, excited to put their skills to the test. These placements give students a chance to practice their skills, see how communications professionals work day-to-day, and get a feel for what their future career could look like. 💻 Before they set off, we asked how they were feeling—here’s what they shared!

Applied learning looks and feels a lot different from lecture-hall learning.
The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame has some amazing treasures hidden inside. I've been tasked with writing a bio for Scott Oake of the CBC who has just published his new book, For the Love of a Son. Thanks Joanne Kelly and Jon Waldman for this exciting assignment!
