  • Michael Bain works on developing Leonardo Canada Electronics’ brand image. As the Marketing, Media, and Communications Coordinator, Michael partners with the business development and sales team to develop marketing materials designed to highlight LCE’s capabilities. He also manages the company website and social media channels, ensuring a consistent and professional brand identity. Michael enjoys the freedom to continuously learn, which is one of the things he values most about working at LCE. From learning new software and being afforded opportunities to tackle unique projects, he is constantly evolving his skills. Michael’s path to a creative field began somewhat unexpectedly. In high school, he was influenced by an amazing art teacher and fell in love with Communications Technology classes, where he learned the basics of video and photo editing, broadcasting, and design. Though he originally considered other career paths, a last-minute decision to pursue graphic design led him to a field where he could combine his favorite interests. Mentorship has played a significant role in Michael’s journey. His college professor Rob Smith helped him understand how to navigate the highs and lows of the creative industry, while Gabe De Puyjalon, LCE’s Head of Operations, has been a role model in balancing hard work with a fun and positive attitude. Gabe’s ability to take his work seriously without taking himself too seriously is a quality that Michael admires and tries to emulate on his own. Michael’s most rewarding moment at LCE was the launch of Skytender. This project saw him involved in everything from logo design and video production to creating marketing materials and event banners. Watching Skytender debut at AOC Europe was a defining moment to him, showcasing his contributions to LCE. https://lnkd.in/eQK3Dz22 Outside the office, Michael collects and works on classic cars with his dad, particularly Mini/Micro Cars. Their most prized project is a 1960 Austin-Healey 'bugeye' Sprite, a car they’ve restored together. Michael also works and paddles with the Carleton Dragon boat club, while coaching and steering recreational teams across Ottawa. For aspiring designers, Michael’s advice is to stay open to all areas of design. He didn’t expect to love typography or motion graphics during college, but they’ve become some of his favorite aspects of the job. Keeping an open mind and being willing to learn are keys to success in the design world. As for the future, Michael is excited to continue growing LCE’s brand within the defense industry, he wants to give the company’s talented staff and products get the recognition they deserve.

  • LCE Engineers: Behind the Scenes - Justin Singh, EIT In this edition of " LCE Engineers: Behind the Scenes," we are thrilled to introduce Justin Singh, Senior Systems Engineer with the role of Product Owner at Leonardo Canada Electronics. Justin shares what makes his work so fulfilling and provides insights into his career journey and approach to engineering. For Justin, what makes working at LCE so rewarding is the opportunity to work on fast-paced, challenging projects in the EW Domain, all in different phases of the engineering lifecycle. These projects allow him to take on a variety of roles and responsibilities, which in turn provide constant opportunities to learn new skills and develop professionally. Working cross-functionally to achieve key engineering milestones is deeply satisfying, especially when seeing the direct impact his contributions have on the business. Justin’s journey into engineering was fueled by a lifelong curiosity about how things work and a desire to make a difference. He chose to pursue systems engineering because he enjoys seeing a project evolve from a conceptual idea to operational deployment. He finds it fulfilling to watch something progress from an idea to a design on paper, and finally into a built object that meets the wants and needs of your initial intent. One of Justin’s guiding philosophies comes from James Clear’s Atomic Habits: “You do not rise to the level of your goals; you fall to the level of your systems.” He applies this mantra to both his personal and professional life, recognizing the importance of processes in achieving consistent and high-quality results. For him, good engineering practices ensure that projects stay on track, delivering within cost and schedule commitments. Outside of work, Justin enjoys watching hockey with friends and family and participates in local league games when he has the chance. He also spends time training his dogs and picking up new home renovation skills—especially when something around the house needs fixing! For aspiring engineers, Justin advises “Don’t be afraid to fall fast” and encourages embracing mistakes early on in one’s career. He emphasizes the importance of focusing on the skills behind tasks and suggests taking every opportunity to hone soft skills, such as giving presentations or participating in discussions that translate technical topics into high-level insights. These transferable skills, he says, will serve engineers well in any industry or specialization they choose to pursue. Thank you, Justin, for sharing your experiences and wisdom with us! Stay tuned for more team features in our "LCE Spotlight" series.
