“The more sustainable decorating option is using a real Christmas tree and planting it in a biodegradable pot, which eliminates the environmental impacts of disposal, allows the tree to continue sequestering carbon and prevents methane emissions from trees decomposing in landfills. It also reduces the need for annual tree harvesting. This approach combines the advantages of real trees with a low-impact, long-term lifecycle,” says #UBCForestry's Dr. Guangyu Wang. Last week, Carol Colfer joined #UBCForestry for a discussion about the broader themes in her work, including gender, inequality, and colonialism, hosted by UBC Master of International Forestry.🌱 She shared her ethnographic research and experiences in forestry across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, along with reflections on colonial impacts and gender issues within forestry and conservation framed in the context of her own positionality.🎤 Watch the recording now: https://lnkd.in/eWskHa_s
Thanks to everyone that came out to hear Carol Colfer's talk on "Gender, Inequality, & Colonialism in the Context of International Forestry." Her reflections on 70(!) years of experience in this field were illuminating, and prompted some great conversations with the audience and at the reception afterwards. We will be making a recording of the event available early next week.
