  • Human Rights Day, observed on December 10th, marks the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), adopted by the United Nations in 1948. The UDHR outlines the fundamental rights and freedoms that all people are entitled to, regardless of race, gender, religion, nationality, or any other status. The 2024 theme, "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now", highlights the vital role human rights play in creating more peaceful, just and sustainable societies. It calls for urgent action to uphold human rights, combat hate speech, and counter misinformation. The UDHR is the most translated document in the world, available in 577 languages, and remains a cornerstone of international human rights law. Human Rights Day is a reminder that human rights are essential for dignity, equality, and justice—and a call to action for people everywhere to defend and promote these rights every day. #HumanRightsDay #UDHR #UniversalDeclarationOfHumanRights #HumanRights #SocialJustice #EqualityForAll #DignityAndRespect #FightForHumanRights #DefendHumanRights

  • Keeping Your Workers Safe this Holiday Season 🎄 The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is right around the corner! Stress, fatigue, and rushing are the top contributors of accidents as we wrap up the year, so it’s critical that employees to stay focused and are given the proper resources to do so, amid holiday stressors. We wanted to provide you with 7 important talking points to ensure your employees are aware of the hazards that this change in the seasons can present. 1) Staying Focused: The excitement and/or stress that comes along the holiday season can be distracting. Support your employees in keeping their minds on tasks, and focus on what they’re doing. Especially if they are working in high-risk jobs. 2) Don’t Rush: Whether it’s rushing to return home to family members, or keeping up with work demands, it’s important to make sure employees aren’t sacrificing their safety to complete a task. Rushing can often lead to costly–or even deadly–mistakes. Encourage your workers to continue their work at a steady pace. The risk just simply isn’t worth it. 3) Hazards of Fatigue: Review the importance of staying hydrated, eating right, and getting enough sleep. Working longer hours / extra shifts, or late nights at home / stress from home can mean workers are more likely to experience fatigue during the holiday season. If workers aren’t getting enough sleep, then it can affect their performance and their safety. This is an opportunity to review your policy on maximum hours worked per shift and per workweek. 4) Hazards of Stress: Stress can cause an employee to lose their focus and endanger themselves. Stress can also be caused by any of the co-factors above. Wherever their stress is coming from, make yourself available to help your employees through difficult times, or make sure their supervisor or the HR department is aware of it. By taking these extra steps to protect your workers, you’re helping to ensure they make it home safely to their families this holiday season. #WorkplaceSafety #HolidaySafety #EmployeeWellbeing #SafetyFirst #StressManagement #WorkplaceHealth #EmployeeEngagement #SafetyCulture #HolidaySeason #OccupationalHealth

  • National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW), brought to you by the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction, takes place November 24–30, 2024. We wanted to bring attention to this important observance, especially in our community, where the reports of substance use and addiction is so prevalent. NAAW aims to find solutions to help address the harms related to the use of alcohol and other drugs. This year’s theme is Forging Connections, which provides an opportunity for people in Canada to collaborate with partners, communities and individuals to develop connections, identify common ground and work together to help address the challenges of substance use health. Strengthening these connections can help us find effective solutions and actions we can all support.
