🌍Highlighting nuclear's role in the fight against climate change! Two colleagues, Hugo Bernat and Etienne HOARAU, participated in the #COP29 in Baku in the Nuclear for Climate initiative framework. They had an enriching experience while contributing to addressing the global challenge of climate change. ⚛️ During the conference, six new countries joined the declaration to triple nuclear energy production by 2050! The Nuclear for Climate delegation made up of over 30 young nuclear professionals from 17 countries organised several events jointly with organisations like Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE) or country pavilions (Canada). They highlighted the crucial role nuclear energy plays alongside renewables in reaching global climate goals. Hugo discussed the role of nuclear power during a panel titled 'Critical Minerals for Energy Transition: An Intergenerational Perspective' at the Arctic Pavilion. 🤝 Our colleagues had the opportunity to meet Rafael Mariano Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and discuss the nuclear industry's future. Their experiences in Baku were memorable and unique, highlighting the hospitality of the Azerbaijani people. The Ontario Energy Network just wrapped up its last networking luncheon of 2024! A huge thank you to everyone for your amazing contributions throughout the year. Special thanks to the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) for generously sponsoring the Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE) Student Table. Today's luncheon featured a fireside chat with Amanda Klein, Executive Vice President of Toronto Hydro, and Josie Erzetic, President and CEO of the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), discussing ESA’s role in transformation as well as their next strategic plan. Josie emphasized that safety isn’t just a one-time focus—it’s an ongoing commitment. As the provincial safety regulator, ESA works closely with contractors, utilities, and partners to address electrical risks and foster a safety-first culture across Ontario. Thank you, Josie, for sharing your insights at the OEN luncheon and updating us on ESA’s efforts to make Ontario a safer place to live, work, and play. At our discussion hosted by Arup "Keeping Communities #Cool: Effective Interventions for Neighborhoods and Buildings", I concluded my segment by highlighting the importance of going beyond mentoring and training and ensuring women's #access to #finance. On November 16th, 2024, leaders, changemakers, and allies came together at the Hyatt Regency in #Baku, Azerbaijan, for the 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐎𝐏𝟐𝟗: 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐮 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞. This event celebrated and advanced the crucial role of women in leading the global energy transition. I was honored to moderate a thought-provoking discussion on the transformative impact of investing in women to drive energy innovation and sustainable solutions. Empowering women through investment, exposure, and inclusion goes beyond closing gaps—it creates opportunities that spark innovation and progress. Ms. Boyana Achovski highlighted the integration of gender considerations in energy infrastructure and policy development. Ms. Irina Gorbounova emphasized the role of impact investment in advancing sustainable energy innovation, particularly for women. Ms. Alicia Eastman shared insights on improving inclusion for women in the hydrogen sector and developing gender-sensitive energy solutions. Ms. Ju Wang addressed global barriers and opportunities for women in the hydrogen fuel cell industry, advocating for international collaboration. Ms. Ivana Fernandes Duarte discussed making financing mechanisms more accessible for women-led sustainable energy projects, especially in emerging markets. Ms. Sarah Alharthey highlighted the importance of youth engagement and leadership opportunities for young women in the energy sector.
