Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we’re standing in solidarity with all those affected by gender-based violence. Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today and remains largely unreported. The impacts of violence against women and girls are far-reaching and can have adverse effects on psychological, sexual and reproductive health. We must work together to prevent gender-based violence. Stopping this violence starts with believing survivors, adopting comprehensive and inclusive approaches that tackle the root causes, transform harmful social norms, and empower women and girls. #YorkRegion is committed to creating a welcoming and #inclusive environment that recognizes and celebrates all dimensions of #diversity. 🚯 🚽 ✅ 🗑️ It’s #NationalFlossDay. Build healthy habits for you and the environment! When you’re done flossing, throw your used floss in the garbage, not down the toilet. Remember to protect your pipes and only flush the three Ps: Pee, Poo and toilet Paper. Every year, York Region spends over $1 million removing sewer blockages caused from flushing non-flushable items. This can lead to increased water rates. Never flush floss, single-use wipes or personal care products. 🌟 Celebrating 25 Years of GIS Excellence! 🌟 Yesterday, we proudly celebrated #GISDay together with our partners including the YorkInfo Partnership, York Regional Police, and Esri Canada. With 20+ booths showcasing #GIS (Geographic Information Systems) applications, this special 25th anniversary event highlighted the unique skills and innovative solutions making a significant impact in our communities. We came together to connect, share examples of GIS in action around #YorkRegion and talk about new opportunities for #collaboration. And our awesome keynote speaker Chris North shared his wisdom on how we can continue to use the lens of geography and apply it to business as an integrator to help address increasingly complex challenges like housing shortages and infrastructure management.🌎📍🗺️ Thank you everyone who made this milestone celebration a success! Here’s to many more years of GIS innovation and community impact. #Innovation #CommunityImpact #Collaboration

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, an annual observance that honours the memory of the transgender people whose lives have been lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. This day was founded in 1999 by transgender advocate, Gwendolyn Ann Smith, as a vigil to honour the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. There is no place for anti-transgender violence – everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and to live freely. #YorkRegion is committed to creating a welcoming and #inclusive environment that recognizes and celebrates all dimensions of #diversity.
