Happy New Year! 2025 is going to be huge for 1908 to Net-Zero. After a journey of ideation, planning, design, and permitting we're moving from the pre-con stage to the execution stage. Permits were a ~3.5 year 'breeze' with the City of Vancouver and BC Hydro took their sweet time too but showed up just under the wire on December 30th so we're now disconnected, over to temporary power, and ready to rock. Erick Ventura and the VEMA Sustainable Deconstruction team have us tented and onto stucco abatement starting promptly on January 2nd (amazing!). Todd Best and Best Builders Ltd. have the project planned front, back, and inside out. Once abatement and deconstruction wrap late January it will be time for Nickel Bros Industrial to make some magic happen, carefully lifting our retained 1908 character house into the air, so Hubert Regehr and the J & R Excavation & Demolition team can get the site prepped for our brand new ICF foundation set with the lowest carbon concrete we can find. In partnership with the Canadian Home Builders' Association National CHBA Net Zero program, Episode 2 of 1908 to Net-Zero series is right around the corner, and as we reflect on the big year of design with Barbara Silverthorn, Smithcraft Architecture, and Form Collective, our Project Vision remains as steadfast as ever. We look forward to working with each of our partners in 2025 to make the built environment a bit more sustainable, and to help demystify the process so it becomes just a bit more common place.
