No better way to step into Black History Month than attending the Julius Alexander Isaac Moot Gala last Saturday with some incredible Gowling WLG colleagues. Proud that Gowling WLG was the moot reception sponsor for such an important event celebrating young, raw Black excellence, hosted by the Black Law Students' Association of Canada. We’re in interesting times, and everything in the world feels so intense. But what if we all just loved our neighbors as (or at least almost as) we love ourselves? I really think it can be that simple. Black History Month is a time of commemoration, but love and compassion? That should be every day, every month. That said, I’m excited to celebrate the richness and diversity of Black culture all month long! We had the privilege of volunteering at the Mission Services of Hamilton through the Lawyers Feed the Hungry program. This Ontario-wide program works with local agencies to help those struggling with food insecurity. Together, it serves over 75,000 meals each year. Our colleague, Konstantine Peter Ketsetzis volunteers as a financial director for this important initiative. Today, I had the joy of bringing my daughter Madeline and her friend to Gowling WLG for “Bring Your Kid to Work Day.” They had an exciting field trip to the John Sopinka Courthouse, a mock trial at our Gowling WLG Hamilton office, and learned about the world of law.
