  • It’s not every day we witness the opening of an international franchise! We’re excited to highlight the recent opening of Chick-fil-A Restaurants' newest location right here in Newmarket. Known for their delicious food 🍗 and strong community focus, Chick-fil-A joins our growing roster of businesses that call Newmarket home. Since entering the Canadian market in 2019, Chick-fil-A has opened over a dozen locations across Ontario, with Newmarket as one of the latest additions. This milestone highlights our Town’s success in creating a business-friendly environment that attracts top brands, supports investment, and fosters economic growth. 📈 We were pleased to learn that every Chick-fil-A restaurant in Canada participates in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program, partnering with Second Harvest to redistribute surplus food and combat hunger in local communities. Since 2019, this initiative has provided over 91,000 meals for Canadians in need. Chick-fil-A’s contributions were recently recognized at Second Harvest’s Food Rescue Awards in Ontario. Chick-fil-A also invests in its team, and proudly employs over 100 staff at the Newmarket location in various part-time and full-time positions. In 2024, 39 eligible Chick-fil-A Team Members in Canada were awarded Leadership Scholarships totaling $73,500, recognizing their dedication and hard work in school, the restaurant, and the community. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,500 per recipient which has significant local impact. Locally owned and operated, each Chick-fil-A restaurant focuses on building meaningful community connections while delivering exceptional service. 🤝 This welcome addition to Newmarket reinforces our commitment to fostering a community where businesses and residents thrive together. The pleasure is truly ours, as we celebrate Chick-fil-A’s expansion into our community! #NewmarketON #BusinessAttraction #InternationalBusiness #WelcomeChickfilA #CanadianExpansion

  • In October, our Planning Department invited Urban and Regional Planning University Students from Toronto Metropolitan University School of Urban and Regional Planning to participate and learn more about #Newmarket’s South of Davis Are Study (SODA)! 🏡 The SODA study evaluates the area of Main Street from Simcoe Street to Millard Avenue, between Niagara Street and the railway line. The purpose of this study is to set out a vision for this area’s redevelopment while incorporating appropriate policies and recommendations into the Official Plan Update – a policy that guides how land in Newmarket should be used. We took the students on a historic walk in the SODA study area while showcasing #Newmarket’s award-winning Main Street. We ended the day with the students participating in a design charette workshop for SODA. Thank you to the TMU students and Blair Scorgie for coming up to Newmarket for the day and providing your insight on your experience with the area, how we can better preserve or enhance the heritage buildings and landscapes, what types of housing would fit in the area, and future development opportunities. Your feedback will be incorporated into the SODA Study. Follow along and learn more about the SODA Study at: https://lnkd.in/gP2BiPRE #UrbanPlanning #OfficialPlan

Approximately 7.5 million MALTESERS® will are crafted daily – that’s about 83 chocolate treats per Newmarket resident! How’s that for a Halloween score? Here’s an interesting one… Did you know that Rockets® are known as Smarties® in the U.S.? 🍬Ce De Candy Company, locally known as Rockets Candy Limited started making candy on Queen Street in downtown Toronto back in 1963. In 1988, they moved to their current location in Newmarket to increase production of Rockets®. Today, the family-owned company is run by the founder’s granddaughters, producing Rockets® (or Smarties® in the U.S.) 24/7 at factories in Union, New Jersey, and here in Newmarket, making billions of delicious wafer candy rolls each year!
