This project has been a great example for us at Fourfold of how (Swiss) foundations, with Jacobs Foundation UBS Optimus Foundation Roger Federer Foundation, quickly gathered and mobilized funding in what was initially a humanitarian response, to become a long-standing, institutionalised programme supporting children and their families. 👍
🇺🇦 As we mark the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the numbers tell a chilling story: millions displaced, homes destroyed, and lives irrevocably altered. But behind each statistic is a human being, a family, a dream disrupted. ‼️ The war has forced approximately one-third of Ukrainians from their homes, a heartbreaking reality that sees 3.7 million internally displaced and 6.7 million seeking refuge abroad. The humanitarian crisis is a stark reminder that 12.7 million people in Ukraine urgently need assistance. The education system has been crippled, leaving students struggling to catch up: two years behind in reading, one year behind in mathematics, and half a year behind in science. The war is robbing them of their education, their opportunities, and their future. And now, with recent USAID funding cuts impacting school renovations and digital learning centres, the challenges seem even more daunting. But amidst the darkness, there is light. The Can't Wait to Learn Ukraine application gives a helping hand by providing a specially designed app that allows primary school children to continue learning key subjects like Maths and Literacy, regardless of their location. The app offers children the opportunity to learn through educational games on various devices, addressing both educational needs and psychosocial well-being. Thanks to the steadfast support of our key partners and donors—Osvitoria, Plan International, World Vision, Stiftung Fourfold, Jacobs Foundation, Otto Foundation, Roger Federer Foundation, UBS Optimus Foundation and Northern Trust, the programme has become an integral part of the teaching process for thousands of primary school teachers in Ukraine. As a result, children’s motivation has increased, with interactive content boosting their engagement in learning. Can’t Wait to Learn UA is fully aligned with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine curriculum, ensures continuity in learning and supports the psychological well-being of students during these challenging times. 💫 This programme developed by War Child is more than just an app; it's a promise—our promise to stand by these children, to provide them with the tools they need to learn, grow, and heal. #UnlockLearningForAll #CantWaitToLearn #EducationInEmergencies #Ukraine
