« Everyone has a role to play in restoring nature » says Tim Jarvis AM, founder of Forktree Project. Tim is a remarkable Antarctic explorer, environmental scientist, filmmaker, and founder of Forktree in Australia who has been recognised globally for his leadership in rewilding and nature restoration. And Forktree just joined the alliance! Forktree is showing what is possible in terms of habitat restoration, regenerative agriculture and improved land and water management. Their ultimate goal is to restore nature; both habitats and native wildlife all the while including local knowledge and consideration of climate change. Their teams are bringing back rare and endangered, pre-European native habitat with a goal to return a degraded 133-acre former pastoral property in South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula back to nature. To achieve this, they are actively restoring habitat by re-establishing native trees and shrubs and expanding their impact by running a seed orchard for rare native plants combined with educational programmes. In just 4 growing seasons, they’ve achieved something remarkable: • Planted over 20,000 native trees, shrubs, and grasses • Established habitat for 105 fauna species, including rare Elegant Parrots • Created a 2,000 tree Sheoak habitat for endangered Glossy Black Cockatoos Key highlights: • 90%+ plant survival rate • Collaborative effort with Conservation Volunteers Australia • Partnering with First Nations land managers (Ngarrindjeri and Kaurna peoples) • Potential to sequester thousands of tonnes of carbon Forktree inspires us, proving we can heal landscapes, support biodiversity, and combat climate change through thoughtful, holistic restoration. #Rewilding #HopeIntoAction #GenerationRestoration

These are difficult times. We are facing an unprecedented loss of biodiversity. Ecosystems critical for supporting both humans and biodiversity are in danger of being irrevocably lost. Amidst this doom and gloom, the idea of rewilding has been gaining increasing popularity. But what really is rewilding? What should its goal be, especially for an urbanising country like India? What are the ethical implications of rewilding? Most importantly, how can each one of us contribute environmentally and socially to the rewilding of the planet? The session is moderated by Seema Mundoli, renowned conservationists Ravi Chellam and Dr Alister Scott from Global Rewilding Alliance will talk about all this and more – and why, for a planet in crisis, rewilding may be our only hope. Did you know sharks play a crucial role in addressing climate change? 🌊🦈 A study highlighted on Animating Carbon reveals that protecting sharks in coral reef ecosystems can sequester carbon equivalent to an entire nation’s annual fossil fuel emissions, such as Kuwait's in 2022. This research is part of the Animating the Carbon Cycle initiative, which explores how species like sharks, elephants, and bison act as 'climate heroes,' restoring ecosystems and enhancing natural carbon capture. Partnering with nature through rewilding isn't just about biodiversity—it’s a scalable, impactful solution to the climate crisis. Explore these findings and join the movement to rewild our planet for a healthier future. 🌿 #AnimatingCarbon #ClimateHeroes #OceanConservation #Biodiversity #Sharks Visit www.animatingcarbon.earth 💙

"We find inspiring new allies every time we are out there in these places, helping to make the songs of #whales, the howls of #wolves and trumpeting of #elephants an unignorable cacophony outside the doors of the conference venue. Whales, dolphins and all their distant cousins are part of the solution. They are the building blocks that shaped the #world in which we humans have learnt to thrive. But our actions have unbuilt the house that we grew up in. We must carefully pick up each piece, nurture it, and gently place it back. We are making progress. We will turn the tide and get us closer to peace with #nature. We have no other choice. Nature is waiting to help us, we just need to reach that critical mass that will give those holding the financial power the lightbulb moment of the simplest logic." What if I told you I invented the best carbon capture machines on the market? They are mobile  They can be scaled quickly They don't break or need to be fixed They have proven functionality over the years They are the most cost-effective solution on the market They fit everywhere, in bustling cities or the countryside They have some additional cool features like producing medicine & food Would you invest? Awesome! Open your wallets because I am talking about wildlife. ____________ 🧑💼HERE MY PITCH:   🔬 Our R&D behind it ↳ Wildlife enables nature to absorb & store more carbon in soils & sediments ↳ They protect stored carbon, preventing it from escaping into the atmosphere ↳ Our approach is called "Animating the Carbon Cycle (ACC)" 💪 Our impact ↳ Protecting & restoring populations of just 9 wildlife species would draw down 6.4 BILLION TONNES of Carbon annually.  ↳ That's the entire annual carbon emissions of the USA. 🦬 Our available models Sea Otters ↳ 5.2 Megatons of CO2/y ↳ Super cute & entertaining Sharks ↳ 108 Megatons of CO2/y ↳ A bit misunderstood, but one of our best performers American Bison ↳ 595 Megatons of CO2/y ↳ Fluffy 💰 Interested to invest? Visit animatingcarbon.earth to:  ↳ See our full range of 9 wild climate heroes ↳ Understand the full science behind it  ↳ See in which projects you can invest PITCH END ____________ 💚 Thank you Global Rewilding Alliance, Alister Scott, Yasmine Grignard & the rest of the nature allies for this crucial work. Please visit their new website: animatingcarbon.earth To learn more. While I always love to joke around, this is real. Wildlife is our best ally to tackle the climate challenge. It's the cheapest, proven method & that provides additional positive effects. So let's invest in wildlife instead of even more machines. P.S. If you would have $100k to invest. Would you put it into wildlife or carbon capture machines?  #biodiversity #climatechange #rewilding

Did you know that wildlife aids in counteracting the climate crisis? The Global Rewilding Alliance recently launched the AnimatingCarbon.Earth website, where they share information about the role of wildlife as climate heroes to counteract the climate crisis and restore our planet. In this way, strengthening their populations contributes to an increase in the carbon absorption capacity of ecosystems. Through this line of scientific research, called “Carbon Cycle Animation”, a study was published in the renowned journal Nature Climate Change in 2023, written by 15 scientists from different parts of the world. This research was led by Yale University and Global Rewilding Alliance, among other institutions. 🌍 Excited to share the launch of the Animating Carbon Cycle website! 🌱✨ Animating the Carbon Cycle is a groundbreaking field of science that bridges biodiversity and climate — showing how healthy wild animal populations supercharge the ability of ecosystems to capture and store massive amounts of carbon from the atmosphere. It is a promising nature-based solution that mitigates climate change, reverses biodiversity loss, and restores balance for nature, people and Gaia. Our new website, www.animatingcarbon.earth, is an increasingly comprehensive library of resources for anyone working at the intersection of climate action, biodiversity action, and policy. Whether you’re a rewilder, scientist, policymaker, educator, or simply passionate about creating a wild world, this platform provides: 🌟 Visual animations and explanations of Animating the Carbon Cycle in action. 🌟 Regularly updated results from rewilding action happening on the ground all over the world. 🌟 Resources to integrate the science into impactful work across disciplines, including policy guidelines. 🌟 Peer-reviewed science from some of the world’s top scientists, universities and journals. We invite you to explore this resource and join us in re-animating the carbon cycle — through science, policy, and action. This initiative is led by a partnership between the Global Rewilding Alliance and Yale School of the Environment. This work would not have been possible without our Rewilding Champions. A great thank you to: Biophilia Foundation, Rewilding Europe, Fundación Rewilding Chile, ifaw, André Hoffmann, Ben Goldsmith, Re:wild. We also want to thank One Earth and the WILD Foundation for helping us get started on his important initiative. Join us in partnering with nature. #AnimatingCarbon Video Music Credits: Into the Forest - Jakob Ahlbom Visit the website: www.animatingcarbon.earth

An insightful article that really delves into the world of... fences 🔍 💭 Some fences are useful, yes, and useful to enable visionary #rewilding in cases. An example is the herd of mighty European Bison in the Wilder Blean project in Kent - that are happily fenced within their wild woodland range. But so often fences hinder the connectivity of wildlife. And there is so much of it: "the length of fencing in the world could stretch to the Sun and back multiple times" 🌞 💡 This article explores some nature-friendly alternatives, small ways that we can #rewild our land, and transforms the reader into a fence-expert! 💚 Thanks, Daniel Martin Eckhart - you are a great source of #Rewilding success stories, news and more...

A good article by the BBC about fences - yes, fences - a global problem that, for most of us in our daily lives, isn't a problem at all. In fact, it feels right, it feels orderly. Here's the article in full > https://lnkd.in/dYC2Tj7e But think about it, for nature in all its forms to deliver, it needs to be able to flow. Unfortunately, as researcher Alex McInturff highlights in the article, "... the length of fencing in the world could stretch to the Sun and back multiple times." We live in a fenced world. I see it all the time and, when you just look around, you'll see it, too. Some fences make sense, of course. Many more do not. McInturff says that, as a general rule, nature sees more losers than winners when a fence goes up. In our own lives and gardens, we can ensure that nature's critters can travel from our garden to the next and the next and the next - check out the ideas (such as hedgehog holes) in the final part of the article. Personally, whenever a separator is wanted, I'd opt for a rewilded hedge instead of a fence. Where a fence is just a fence, a diverse hedge can soon become a haven teeming with wildlife. The pictured bison could be doing so much more for nature (and thus for all of us), if we'd just allow them to travel as they wish. Alas, a massive border fence, nearly 200km long, has gone up between Poland and Belarus to stop migrants. Well, it stops nature, too. We can do so many wonderful nature-positive things, but if they happen in isolation of this reserve or that, we won't gain even half the potential benefits. I think we need people exclusively focused on connecting dots, on fighting and lobbying and legislating for corridors. Whether it's fences, or roads, or railroad tracks - nature must have a path, must be able to flow - it is in our species' very own best interest. We are awesome at putting up fences ... imagine a world where we'd be awesome at taking them down (both physically and metaphorically) instead.
