The #fragrance industry was delighted to join this event and continue the #dialogue on the actions needed to secure Europe’s future. **Advancing consumer safety: IFRA’s updated furocoumarins policy** Consumer safety is at the heart of everything we do at IFRA. As part of the upcoming 52nd Amendment, we’ve strengthened our approach to furocoumarins—compounds naturally found in some essential oils. 🔬 Backed by years of research, the revised policy is built on three key workstreams: ✅ A robust analytical method to quantify individual furocoumarins ✅ Defined markers to improve clarity and consistency ✅ Updated evidence-based thresholds to reinforce safety These updates translate into two key changes to the IFRA Standards: 📌 The removal of some individual oil Standards 📌 The renaming of one Standard 📌 The definition of eight furocoumarin markers and three maximum thresholds for skin contact products This is a major step forward in scientific rigor and consumer protection, reinforcing IFRA’s commitment to responsible fragrance innovation. 💡 Want to know more? The 51st Amendment, announced in June 2023, is set for full implementation by October 2025. With updates every three years, preparations for the 52nd Amendment have begun, aiming to start consultations by late 2025. **This video is taken from the IFRA Annual Report** Efforts throughout 2024 have focused on setting the stage for this next amendment, continuing well into 2025.
