On the #REACH website we have a new resource from Dr. Marina Korzenevica, PhD., and colleagues, entitled ‘Public participation and community engagement in domestic water supply management in Kenya: Progress and directions’ 📄 Kenya’s water governance has undergone significant reform over several decades, with colonial and early independence policies gradually being replaced. In the 2010 constitution, water was enshrined as a human right, and power was decentralised so that water could be governed at a county level. Within this context, multiple water supply models coexist within rural and urban areas, such as institutionalised service delivery management models, Public-Private-Partnerships and self-supply. 🚰 In this report, Marina and her colleagues evaluate public participation and community engagement in domestic water supply management, analysing policy progress, practices, and challenges within an evolving governance landscape. By exploring public participation in the context of Kenya’s pursuit of water security, the report examines how community engagement can foster sustainability, transparency and empowerment. 🌍 Haiti: Innovating for Better Access to Water and Sanitation 💧 🇭🇹 In Haiti, access to safe water remains a challenge: 68% of urban areas and 48% of rural areas have access to drinking water, while only 49% of the population benefits from basic sanitation services. Despite obstacles such as insecurity and climate change, significant progress is being made through innovative initiatives. With the #SIRWASH program and the mWater platform, supported by the Inter-American Development Bank and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (COSUDE), Dinepa Dinepa is transforming the management of WASH services with: Simplified and transparent data collection from the field, Real-time visualization to support decision-making, Investment prioritization based on objective needs. 💡 Integrated into the #SIEPA system, mWater is a key driver for sustainable access to water and sanitation, especially in rural areas. During this year’s SIRWASH breakfast meeting, we heard from Guito EDOUARD, Director General of #DINEPA (second from left on the group photo), who shared insights from Haiti's use of mWater and the planning tool. 🔗 Check out the platform here: www.siepa.mwater.co A special thanks to Sergio I. Campos G. and Tomas Serebrisky from the Inter-American Development Bank, whose leadership and support have been key in driving these innovations in the water sector.
