We are celebrating a decade of USAID #WASH investments in #Ethiopia in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Senator Paul Simon Water for the World Act. In the early 2010s, USAID invested in Ethiopia’s underserved lowlands with a focus on improved data for decision-making, professionalized water service delivery, empowered women to take on leadership roles within the sector, and built resilience to cope with severe weather. This report celebrates our achievements over the past year and marks a major milestone that has driven this progress: The Senator Paul Simon Water for the World Act tenth anniversary. In 2024 USAID helped: 🚰6.2 million people gain access to drinking water services.  🚾3.9 million people gain access to sanitation services. (Women and girls make up approximately half of each group)  💵Mobilize $848 million from non-USG government sources, nearly doubling the U.S. government’s $475 million investment in water and sanitation through foreign assistance! USAID is deploying evidence and data to accelerate progress. The USAID Global Water Strategy Action Research Initiative (GWS ARI) works to: 🧑🔬Generate actionable evidence to strengthen #WASH and #WRM programs. 👩💻Maximize investment impact by producing applied research with data-backed insights. 👩🔬Cultivate innovation and adaptive learning to provide decision-makers with new evidence to continuously improve USAID programing.
