Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS)

Happy to be out on BMJ Open with the research protocol of The Empty Office: An International Study of Teleworking (TEO), which was funded by the Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS) This summer we collected data on over 4000 workers in four European countries: Switzerland, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands. Through the theories and methods of social network analysis, TEO is analyzing the mechanisms linking teleworking and well-being using a mixed-method design. We are interdisciplinary team of experts and researchers across institutions: University of Geneva (Guillaume P. Fernandez; eric widmer), University of Lausanne (Koorosh Massoudi); University of Amsterdam (Stephanie Steinmetz); University of Fribourg (Stéphane Cullati); Autonomous University of Barcelona (Oscar Molina; Sander Junte), ZEW (Melanie Arntz), SECO (Nicola Cianferoni) and ILO (Manal Azzi). As an intense and inspiring week comes to a close, I’m amazed by the power of being with 1,500 feminists in one conference center. I had the immense privilege to participate and present at #SVRIForum in South Africa, which brought together researchers, policymakers, implementers, and civil society, all committed to ending gender-based violence. The Forum demonstrated that together, we can work towards ending #GBV. Together with Paula Bevilacqua, we presented the findings from our MISSOP study on missed opportunities within the health sector to respond to #violenceagainstwomen in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and Tirana, Albania. This study, led by Daniel Cobos MD MPH PhD, revealed missed opportunities across the women's and girl's journeys through the health system from missed access to missed referral in both settings. As we are currently writing the final publications, it was invaluable to present, discuss, and reflect with colleagues during our session. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who joined our presentation, for the insightful questions and positive feedback. Reaching this huge milestone has been a tremendous team effort alongside Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, FIOCRUZ - Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, IAMANEH Schweiz I Suisse, Counseling Line for Women and Girls & University of Tirana. I can't wait for us to publish the final results soon. Thanks to Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS) for the grant that enabled the study! Congratulations to Yael Borofsky, Early-Career Fellow at the Collegium Helveticum and PhD graduate of the ETH Development Economics Group, for being awarded a prestigious Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS) research grant! Yael's project will explore the role of policymakers in diffusing new infrastructure technologies in poor urban settlements, contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
