🌱 #Agroecology: A Pathway to Resilience and Sustainability 🌍 "Agroecology is the path to #sustainability, and together, we can build stronger communities to face the challenges of #ClimateChange." In 🇿🇼 #Zimbabwe, farmers like Elias Jarawani are transforming their livelihoods through sustainable agricultural practices. Thanks to support from 🇨🇭 #Switzerland, Elias has successfully transitioned to agroecological methods – empowering him to adapt to the severe drought conditions affecting farmers across Southern Africa this year. Through initiatives like these, the SDC is tackling the global challenges of food systems, ensuring access to healthy food for all while building resilience in the face of climate change. 🗝️ Labour Migration governance is key for unlocking the development potential of migration, particularly in Central #Asia, where thousands of people work abroad. Last week, and for the third time, OIM - ONU Migration has gathered key stakeholders from 🇹🇯 #Tajikistan, 🇰🇬 #Kyrgyzstan, 🇰🇿 #Kazakhstan, and 🇰🇿 #Uzbekistan in Almaty under the framework of the #SDC-funded Regional Labour Migration Programme in Central Asia. Representatives from governments, recruitment agencies, the private sector, and civil society engaged in dynamic discussions on challenges and best practices in labour migration governance. Here are the 3️⃣ take-aways from the fruitful discussions: ➡️ OIM - ONU Migration’s Migration Tracking Matrix (MTM) is providing valuable data and insights into the evolving dynamics of labour mobility in the region. This data is crucial for evidence-based national and regional migration policy planning (for example, see the MTM data on Kyrgyzstan: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ezbr4i6x). ➡️ While Pre-Departure Orientation is crucial for the protection of prospective labour migrants, Pre-Employment Orientation (🔗 https://www.iom.int/ciop) is equally important as it starts earlier, thus supporting young people to make informed decisions about their professional aspirations, skills, employment opportunities and a potential labour migration journey. ➡️ Bilateral labour migration agreements are seen by governments as a tool to diversify labour migration destinations, a key concern for all Central Asian countries. However, negotiating, implementing and monitoring agreements that ensure a safe migration journey for #MigrantWorkers is highly complex.

🗺 The 35th Plenary meeting of the Governance network (#GovNet) of the OECD-OCDE Development Assistance Committee (DAC) took place in Paris from November 20th to the 22nd, gathering representatives of the major world’s donor countries. The GovNet has important workstreams on: 1️⃣ Monitoring Official Development Assistance (ODA) flows to Governance 2️⃣ Delivering ODA to governance in politically constrained contexts 3️⃣ Enhancing ODA support for Public Interest Media and integrity of information ecosystems 4️⃣ Digital Transformation and Governance 5️⃣ Supporting inclusive governance 🤝 As the #GovNet is the main and key place for Switzerland to be active on policy dialogue at international level, Switzerland is a long-term member and contributor to the #GovNet on all of its workstreams. It managed to co-lead some major policy works adopted by the DAC for all of its member countries, like in April 2024 the OECD’s Principles for Relevant and Effective Support to Media and the Information Environment. Succeeding to the EU and Finland, our Swiss Representative to the GovNet, Benoît MEYER-BISCH, SDC Senior Policy Advisor for Governance, has been nominated as next #GovNet Chair from 2025, with the representatives of Canada and Austria as vice-chairs. We thank the delegates of GovNet members, the Swiss delegation to the OECD and the OECD-DAC for this nomination, and the trust as well as responsibility hereby given to our colleague. 💡 About the #GovNet of the OECD-OCDE Development Assistance Committee 👇

🤝 🇨🇭 SDC invests in social and impact entrepreneurship as a key driver of sustainable economic development, empowering migrants, and enhancing socio-economic #inclusion. This new partnership with Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation reflects SDC’s approach to scaling private sector engagement, with great potential for replication across different countries and sectors. #SwissContribution #SustainableDevelopment
Today, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), announced it has awarded a catalytic grant to DRK Foundation to accelerate the growth of social impact entrepreneurship in Africa. Over the next four years, the Foundation and its partners, The Amahoro Coalition and GrowthAfrica Foundation, will find and support a total of 140 new social impact entrepreneurs over the next four years across six African countries. This partnership builds upon DRK’s existing impact in Africa: In 2024, more than a quarter of DRK Foundation’s portfolio organizations reported serving constituents in countries across Africa, and collectively, these organizations have impacted more than 130 million lives across the continent. "Africa stands on the brink of substantial global growth,” says Kanini Mutooni, DRK’s Senior Managing Director for Africa. “This project embodies our commitment to fostering transformative change and expanding support for local founders across Africa who are tackling some of the continent's toughest challenges. We are now poised to not only champion emerging social entrepreneurs but also foster impactful collaborations that will undoubtedly reshape the future and the trajectory of the continent.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ga_KMRUr

Switzerland 🇨🇭 officially marks the conclusion of its pioneering Safe Labour Migration Program (SLMP) in Sri Lanka after 14 years of successful implementation. This program, which has been carried out in close collaboration with the Government of Sri Lanka and a wide range of stakeholders—including UN partners, civil society organizations, trade unions, the private sector, and migrants themselves—has played a critical role in strengthening the governance of labour migration. A key milestone of the program is the adoption of the National Policy and Action Plan on #Migration for Employment (2023-2027), which provides a comprehensive and progressive framework for improving the safety, rights, and opportunities of migrant workers. Additionally, the program has made significant strides in enhancing the skills and certification of migrant workers, boosting their employability and income potential. With today’s formal handover, #Switzerland is confident that #SriLanka 🇱🇰 is well-positioned to continue advancing these important efforts. The transition marks the beginning of a new phase, where the Government of Sri Lanka, with its enhanced policies and institutional capacities, will further strengthen the framework for safe and dignified migration. This handover is a testament to the successful collaboration between Switzerland and Sri Lanka, and to the continued commitment to the future of safe labour migration.
