VOGT is an international landscape architecture firm, founded in Zurich (2000) with offices in Berlin, London and Paris.
Info
Nature is the subject matter and medium of the daily work of VOGT. Our work ranges from small-town squares to metropolitan parks. Based on the given brief and the specific context of the site, we develop concepts and establish interdisciplinary dialogues with architects, artists and planners. To us, designing is a collective act that involves many partners and is primarily to be understood as a process – starting from a paradigm by way of a physical working model and, finally, the built landscape intended as a model. The work of VOGT is therefore characterized by the dialogue established between the various disciplines and its close cooperation with artists. During the technical development of the project, concrete solutions mature and insights emerge, and realistic images – significant, present and true – materialise. Our commitment is focused on vegetation. In plants, life becomes visible and brings processes within our range of experience. VOGT Landschaftsarchitekten was founded in Zurich (2000) with offices in Berlin, London and Paris. Attached to the firm is, moreover, the VOGT Case Studio, as an interface between the practice and the theoretical and investigative studies. As a platform for exhibitions and debates, the Case Studio also is an instrument for the training and further education of the employees, who play a central role in the corporate culture of VOGT.

Günther Vogt is invited by Istanbul Modern to speak on January 15th, 6pm in the context of Olafur Eliasson’s ongoing exhibition. His talk will discuss perceptions of landscape from Switzerland and other regions, exploring its transformation over time in relation to national identity and the cultural production of space. In his lecture, titled "Expectations and Encounters“, he examines the use of landscape imagery as a design tool, drawing on the work of VOGT Landscape Architects and considers the process of designing landscape as a cultural production that shape the way we see the world around us. The public event will present projects such as the LIFE exhibition at the Beyeler Museum in Basel and the Roof Garden at the MET in New York, realised in collaboration with artists Olafur Eliasson and Dan Graham, respectively. Following its debut in Istanbul, the talk will also take place in Ankara on January 17th. Klanghaus Toggenburg, the construction work is progressing steady and according to plan. Over the coming months, we will document the project until its opening in May 2025. This post is dedicated to the concept design and the ideas of Marcel Meili. Meili’s text describes the distinctive, expressive form of the building, which does not merely reflect its purpose but instead responds to the particularity of its setting within the landscape. Like a solitary chapel in the mountains, this architecture establishes a firm and rooted connection with the topography. Folk music, such as yodelling or the sounds of alphorns, relates to the landscape not only for its picturesque qualities but as a resonance space. The Klanghaus, constructed with parabolic walls, aligns with the three different terrain chambers; these created niches operate as collectors of sounds from the landscape and as natural amplifiers for music played within them. From the inside, large windows frame three expansive scenes of the surrounding landscape, each corresponding to one of the site’s defining axes: Schwendisee, Schafberg, and the valley exit. These three tableaux result in the star-shaped form of the Klanghaus. The architecture serves as a grand instrument for the music, the music is an echo of the landscape and radiates back into it. To mark the completion of the Hagen-Haus in Nendeln, we invite you to explore the open space through a virtual stroll. In comparison to the listed buildings, which were revitalised according to the plans of Cukrowicz Nachbaur Architekten ZT GmbH and supplemented by a new building, the open spaces did not exist historically. We therefore designed them anew to suit the location and future use. Our tour begins at the small shooting lodge (Schützenhäusschen), offering views over the Rhine Valley, the Three Sisters Mountain range, and the future vineyard. Due to the slope, the vineyard has been terraced with a dry-stone wall crafted in traditional workmanship using locally sourced stones of varying sizes. The wall guides us to the apple orchard, where a distinctive apple tree, retained as a relic, serves as a design motif for this area. We descend the steps, turn around the northwest corner of the music house, follow the forecourt and walk up the generous flight of steps situated between the revitalised residential building and the music house, forming the new campus entrance. We arrive at the courtyard with the new building and the restored historic well. Along a narrow path past the wash house, we take a detour into the cottage garden, bordered by a hedge with islands of perennials and benches, offering a high quality of stay and an open view of the adjacent orchard meadow. The project has been carefully planned and executed with enduring quality, creating a coherent ensemble of open space and architecture, serving as the campus and new home of the Liechtenstein International Academy of Music. We look forward to the ceremonial opening this coming Friday and kindly inform about the open day on 10.11.2024. Boltshauser Architekten AG / VOGT Landscape Architects win the study commission „Terre Rouge - Ziegelei Areal Baufeld IV, Dättnau“ for the residential development as part of the Keller Ziegeleien master plan in Dättnau, Winterthur. The set buildings, consisting of two rows of houses and a central pavilion made of local brick, open up a generous, fanned-out open space. The use of clay as a building material in the Dättnau Valley reflects the region’s historical tradition of clay and brickwork. The design concept reinterprets the garden city, envisioning a sustainable living environment that combines minimal soil sealing and land consumption, communal open spaces, sustainable energy production and efficient building technology and the use of local materials. The renaturalised floodplain landscape is integrated into the open space planning, establishing a dialogue between the historical identity and the contemporary development of the Dättnauer Valley for a future-oriented garden city neighbourhood. The feasibility study for the airfield park in Dübendorf, on the outskirts of Zurich, was completed this summer. Project development can therefore begin in 2025. The proposed airfield park covers 11 hectares and forms the largest continuous open space on the site of the military airfield. The history and context of the reed landscape define the character of the planned airfield park. Prior to its drainage in 1910, it was an extensive reed with ponds, overgrown bushes and clusters of oak trees. As a landscape park, it refers to the local reeds, extensive meadows and open views to the Säntis. The VOGT masterplan for the airfield park envisions, after its exclusive use as an airfield, large areas of the meadow landscape will become accessible for visitors to explore and enjoy. The airfield park incorporates the history of aviation and at the same time makes a valuable contribution to maintaining biodiversity. Existing valuable habitats are to be preserved, species-poor areas ecologically enhanced through targeted measures and new habitats created. Keynote by Günther Vogt: "Making Space Public – Public Space in the Making" at the GLA Conference in Taipei, Taiwan on October 11th at 1:30 pm. This lecture will discuss what it means to design public space in the 21st century, exploring its historical origins and transformation in today's cities. Urban public space is fundamental to the "new green era" of contemporary cities–the theme of this conference–yet it is under threat from the increasing privatisation and commercialisation of space. In this lecture we propose a series of "urban qualities" that constitute true public space in the 21st century. These qualities will be illustrated with design examples from the work of VOGT Landscape Architects, including the recently inaugurated market square Grote Markt in the Netherlands and the Wall Bench at Tate Modern in London. https://lnkd.in/e5_Nk-vv © pictures 1: Corné Sparidaens, 2: Christian Vogt #vogtlandschaftsarchitekten #vogtlandscape #landscapearchitecture #landscapedesign #Charette #Conference #Taipei #Taiwan #TILA #ANewGreenEra #publicspace #günthervogt #grotemarktgroningen #tatemodernlondon

Am Tacheles is presented and discussed amongst other projects in the current issue of the Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekt:innen bdla magazine 3/2024. The edition is dedicated to green urban spaces and the revitalisation of city centres. Am Tacheles, Berlin 2016-23. Corresponding to the architectural setting, Vogt Berlin have designed the open space, resulting in various typologies such as passage, square, courtyard, and garden. Despite their multiple functions and high usage, each of these spaces contributes to the ecological quality and resilient development of the neighbourhood by achieving a proven biotope area factor on the site through numerous new plantings, green roofs and permeable surfaces.
