Sehen, Verstehen, Erleben - KI in Aktion! Genau das erwartete die Interessierten des Bachelors Applied Digital Life Sciences (ADLS) am ZHAW-Infotag vom 2. November. The ZHAW delegation under the lead of Prof. Dirk Wilhelm, Dean of the ZHAW School of Engineering, has reached its final destination in #Montréal. Prof. Sven Hirsch, Professor for Computational Health at the Institute of Computational Life Sciences, Director of the ZHAW Digital Health Lab and representative of the School of Life Sciences and Facility Management in the delegation was really impressed by the impactful AI-Health ecosystem in Montréal. At its core stands Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, the world's largest academic research center in deep learning. It is mainly funded through the federal and state governments and has pushed the frontier of AI research in different fields through its 50+ AI chairs at universities in Montréal alone. Across Canada, a total of 1400 scientists are affiliated with MILA, all in the field of AI and deep learning. The province of Quebec has seen the necessity of digital health very early and has initiated the Digital Health Consortium between universities and hospitals. Interestingly, this concept is very close to the ZHAW Digital Health Lab and Sven is looking forward to exchange ideas for collaborations between these two initiatives. IVADO is another impressive initiative with many funding opportunities, training (incl. MOOCS), networking and capacity building activities, all in the field of AI. It runs, among others, the R3AI project (robust, reasoning and responsible AI), a 500 Mio. Canadian Dollar project over the next 7 years to support AI research, teaching and knowledge transfer. It was very exciting to see that the computer science department at the Université de Montréal has initiated so many successful and transformative AI initiatives and it was a pleasure to discuss potential joint activities with core scientists of this department, Prof. Sylvie Hamel, the dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, Prof. Philippe Langlais and Prof. Jian-Yun Nie. Is there artificial intelligence for wheat? If so, what would its natural form of intelligence be? What could it reveal to us along the journey from seed, through the fields, milling, and processing? If these questions are part of your daily work, then the following lines might also interest you 😊 We, along with the ZHAW Institut für Lebensmittel- und Getränkeinnovation, are working in collaboration with the ICC - International Association for Cereal Science and Technology to develop an AI-supported platform aimed at improving decision-making across the grain value chain. This platform will integrate secure data from stakeholders and provide comprehensive insights into the quality and sustainability of grain and flour. By using data-driven solutions and predictive models, it will support process optimisation, quality management, and sustainability. To ensure this platform is specifically tailored to your needs, we have created a survey (see QR code or access via this link: https://lnkd.in/d2wc6bhu). We welcome any feedback! For specific questions, feel free to contact Lukas Hollenstein (lukas.hollenstein@zhaw.ch) or Mathias Kinner (mathias.kinner@zhaw.ch) directly. #grainSIM #ICC #zhaw #collaboration Robert Vorburger ZHAW Life Sciences und Facility Management ZHAW Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften
