Congratulations to Dr. Max Verbiest on his doctorate! 😎🎓🎉 On the 31th of October 2024, Max has defended his dissertation ‘Repetition Is Key: The Role of Short Tandem Repeat Variants in Colorectal Cancer’ for a PhD at the Universität Zürich | University of Zurich. Over the last four years, Max has worked on DNA short tandem repeat mutations to study their prevalence and impact on diseases, and more specifically in colorectal cancer. He also developed a brand new tool to identify these mutations, which can be used in cases where chromosome copy numbers change, such as in Down syndrome or in many plants used in agriculture. Max, thank you for your amazing contributions to our institute and for the wonderful times we shared together. Wishing you every success in your future endeavors! 🍀 Examination committee: Prof. Dr. Michael Baudis, University of Zürich and SIB, Switzerland (Chair) Prof. Dr. Maria Anisimova, ICLS - Zürich University of Applied Sciences and SIB, Switzerland (Thesis advisor) Prof. Dr. Christian von Mering, University of Zürich and SIB, Switzerland (Internal expert) Prof. Dr. Mark Robinson of Zürich and SIB, Switzerland (Thesis examiner) Prof. Dr. Michael Thon, University of Salamanca, Spain (External expert) #PhDGraduate #Doctorate #genomics #bioinformatics #zhaw ZHAW Life Sciences und Facility Management SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics University of Salamanca (Universidad de Salamanca) ZHAW Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften
