✨ Excited to Present My Latest Research!✨ I am thrilled to share that I recently presented my research titled **"Identification of Natural Plant-Derived Compounds Targeting TP53 Hotspot Mutations in Lung Cancer: An In Silico Approach"**. 🌿🔬 This study, under the guidance of **Dr. Tithiti Sadhu** from the **Department of Biochemistry, School of Agriculture, SR University**, focuses on identifying natural compounds that could potentially inhibit TP53 mutations, which play a significant role in the development of various cancers, including lung cancer. By leveraging molecular docking techniques and advanced bioinformatics tools, I explored how plant-derived molecules could offer novel therapeutic options in targeting these mutations. Unlocking Immortality: The Sea Anemone’s Secret to Endless Regeneration Revealed Imagine a creature with the potential for immortality—a living organism that defies the natural process of ageing and continuously regenerates itself. Under the direction of Ulrich Technau, researchers at the Universität Wien | University of Vienna have discovered putative multipotent stem cells in the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis, a species renowned for its remarkable capacity for regeneration and even immortality. The group found cells that can differentiate into several types, such as nerve and glandular cells, using sophisticated "Single Cell Genomics," designating them as potential multipotent stem cell candidates. Evolutionarily conserved genes, such as nanos and piwi, control these cells and are necessary for the production of germ cells in animals, including humans. This remarkable discovery provides fresh insights into the mechanisms behind longevity and regenerative medicine, while also illuminating the ancient and conserved nature of stem cell control. Understanding Nematostella vectensis may lead to improvements in human health, especially in the battle against ageing and age-related illnesses. 💻 New bioinformatics tool to identify chromosomal alterations in tumour cells: The new system, designed by a team from the University of Barcelona and IRB Barcelona, will help to improve the diagnosis of cancers and the design of specific treatments for patients👇 ✍ Carles Pons (IRB Barcelona), Caroline Mauvezin (IRB Barcelona Alumni- University of Barcelona-Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), published in the journal Bioinformatics. ✅ This new detection system, known as QATS (QuAntification of Toroidal nuclei in biological imageS), is a computational biological imaging processing tool that will contribute to improving tumour research and classification through its ability to automatically identify and quantify the phenotypes associated with chromosomal instability in the nuclei of cancer cells. Congratulations to Prof. Sarah Andres from the Oregon Health & Science University and to her colleagues for their recent preprint Neonatal Enteroids Absorb Extracellular Vesicles from Human Milk-Fed Infant Digestive Fluid. In this exciting work, the researchers demonstrated for the first time that babies can absorb intact extracellular vesicles (EVs) from breast milk. First, they isolated EVs from milk samples, and then, thanks to a rare opportunity, they managed to isolate EVs from ingested milk in the intestines of infants. The researchers used a number of methods to characterize these EVs, including ONI's #Nanoimager and the EV Profiler kit. The results of this analysis are in the image here. Next, the researchers used donor cells to generated 3D models of intestine cells (enteroids) in order to study the mechanism that they utilize to absorb the EVs from the milk. This research work is outstanding not only because it is the first to show the absorption of milk-derived EVs in babies, but also because it demonstrates that EVs remain intact in the gastrointestinal tract of babies, therefore paving paths for new therapeutic approaches. Our cells contain huge amounts of information about the inner workings of our body. Lysosomes, for example, exist within our cells and are a big part of our immune defence. But they can also be a major factor in neurodegenerative diseases. Sofía Fajardo Callejón is a PhD student and DAAD scholarship holder at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, where she works at the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. For 'Science in a Nutshell', Sofía gave us an insight into her research of identifying subpopulations of lysosomes in our cells and how the identification of these subpopulations might lead to new therapeutic approaches towards diseases like Niemann-Pick Type A, Alzheimer's, and more. Steven will be continuing his research at UHasselt in collaboration with our institute on the project: : 𝑺𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒆𝒛𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑪𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒓: 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒓𝒐-𝑻𝒐𝒑𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑫𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒅𝒆 𝑩𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑷𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑻𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑯𝑵𝑺𝑪𝑪 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒆𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒔. The project aims to understand the mechanobiological mechanisms underlying the reduced proliferation observed in both normal and cancer cell lines cultured on micro-topographical surface structures. For this, we will employ state-of-the-art techniques such as phosphoproteomics, yet also Hi-C and ChIP-sequencing, to investigate the associated epigenetic mechanisms. The insights gained from this research might lead to the development of novel anti-cancer drugs that mimic the biomechanical effects of micro-topographies. It's known that scientists can now profile individual cells at scale thanks to a recent breakthrough in multi-modal single-cell omics technologies. They no longer divide cells according to their size, shape, appearance, & a few molecular markers. They strive for the highest precision score, & for good reason. This cellular segregation will be beneficial, for example, in identifying the cells that cause autoimmune diseases. Scientists are now aware that there is a vast diversity of unique cell types & states found in microliters of, say, blood. Regardless of their apparent similarity, these states perform distinct roles. This is a new multimodal single-cell atlas that focuses on the "Palatine tonsils." The main immune defense against inhaled or ingested pathogens is provided by these organs, also referred to as secondary lymphoid organs (SLOs). The need for biology textbook revisions is not unexpected. Although we may be envious of the focus placed on geography, biology also longs for its own atlases. If students could identify individual cells within specific tissues and systems in addition to using anatomical atlases, I think biology would become more intriguing & the learning experience would grow to more advanced levels.
