We had the pleasure of hosting, in London, a visit from some of #SouthKorea's most exciting tech companies which are looking to expand in the UK. The event kicked off with a group talk led by our Michał Waszkiewicz on the hottest UK market opportunities for overseas firms, as well as the challenges they’re likely to encounter. Michal highlighted tough domestic tech sector competition, driven by the UK’s abundance of talent and mature VC ecosystem – but explained that this also presents opportunities for those who take a partnership approach. After the presentation, each company paired up with one of our market expansion specialists - Alex Gover, Jeremy Shaw, Takuya Gamboni, Paul Dupont and Huw Thomas - for in-depth discussions about their specific goals and growth pains, leading into a working lunch and networking session. Great news story in the Business Weekly newspaper on the matchmaking meetings we facilitated for Wave Photonics and 10 other UK #quantumtech innovators with tech giants and #VCs from #AsiaPacific. The meetings - which are already progressing to commercial discussions in several cases - were organised as part of the UK-APAC Tech Growth Programme, which we deliver for the UK government to provide free and subsidised support for scaleups to target opportunities in 11 markets across Asia Pacific. The UK innovators involved include Wave Photonics, Element Six, Phasecraft and Quantum Software Lab. And the Asian corporations include Fujitsu and QunaSys from #Japan, Qunova Computing and Quantum Intelligence from #SouthKorea, and Taiwania Capital and MediaTek from #Taiwan. If you’re a UK tech firm looking to expand overseas, #Australia looks like an appealing market. It has a common language and a cultural familiarity. And there are unmet needs that present big commercial openings for the right tech innovations. At the same time, it would be wrong to assume it’s an ‘easy’ market, with several challenges to be overcome. Great to see Intralink make the finals of the British Business Awards! Well done everyone!

Our team managing the UK-APAC Tech Growth Programme ran a great event at the Sifted Summit the other day. They arranged for six British innovators to pitch their businesses to #Japan’s largest #logistics and #supplychain company, Yamato Transport Co.,Ltd. Each company presented its technology – ranging from #AI to #blockchain, #robotics and #BigData – for the chance to enter commercial discussions with the Japanese giant. Cngratulations to warehouse automation specialist Dexory for being chosen as the winner. Dexory’s collaboration with Yamato will start imminently with a group visit to Dexory’s UK warehouse, followed by a fully funded trip to Yamato’s Japan HQ. Kudos also to the other companies involved, all who impressed Yamato with their pitches: Applied Blockchain, iCustoms.ai, Huboo, Inteliports and Quaisr. We’re happy to have been commissioned by the South Carolina Department of Commerce to run a long-term programme to attract investors from the #UK and #Ireland to the US state. We open #SouthCarolina's first UK and Ireland trade and investment office today, with our Roxana Gonzalez-Okwuosa at the helm to develop opportunities for investment in the state by British and Irish companies - particularly in the #lifesciences, #automotive and #advancedenergy sectors. The UK is South Carolina’s fifth largest trading partner, representing $2.9 billion in imports and exports. And the UK and Ireland have accounted for around $362 million in investment and 2,000 jobs in the state over the last seven years. South Carolina Secretary of Commerce, Harry Lightsey, said: "South Carolina's new office in the UK and Republic of Ireland builds upon decades of successful trade and investment relations, and we’re excited to continue our partnership with Intralink to further this legacy. “We’ve worked with Intralink in other markets for years and, with their support, are confident our new office will bolster South Carolina's international presence in the years ahead."
