We’re excited to share the latest construction update for Lishui (LIJ) Airport, which is nearing completion and set to open by the end of 2024. Designed to harmonize with the mountainous terrain of Lishui, the airport features a terraced layout that follows the natural contours of the land, integrating the terminal, parking, and office areas into descending platforms. This approach creates a piece of infrastructure that blends functionality with a deep connection to its surroundings. The 12,000-square-meter terminal prioritizes an intimate, human-centered travel experience. A flowing, silver-white roof supported by 14 umbrella-shaped columns brings natural light into the space, while wood-toned finishes and a compact one-and-a-half-story design create a sense of comfort and efficiency. By integrating architecture and landscape, Lishui Airport reflects the city’s identity as a “forest city,” offering a welcoming experience that balances nature and convenience. Our vision for Quzhou Stadium was to create an urban space that transcends a typical 30,000-seat sports venue, integrating it seamlessly into the landscape as a unique land art park. Inspired by the natural terrain of Quzhou, the design merges concrete structures with earth-sheltered landscapes, allowing the stadium to blend into its surroundings like a volcanic cluster and mirror lake. We are excited to announce the completion of One River North, a 16-story mixed-use development in Denver’s River North Art District (RiNo). This project brings MAD Architects' vision of merging urban living with nature to life, featuring a canyon-like carved façade and over 13,000 square feet of landscaped terraces and water elements. Residents can explore the building’s canyon trail from the 6th to the 9th floor, immersing themselves in natural environments inspired by Colorado’s rugged terrain. One River North offers 187 rental units, a 9,000-square-foot retail space, and amenities designed to foster connection, reflection, and well-being. The project earned Fitwel certification for promoting the physical and mental wellness of its residents. It was also featured in the Denver Art Museum’s Biophilia: Nature Reimagined exhibition, recognizing our design approach to integrating nature and architecture. The final phase of the Tornado staircase installation has been completed. Rising 30 meters through the historic warehouse, it is covered with 297 polished stainless-steel panels, representing the unexpected journeys of migrants connecting past and future as visitors ascend. This staircase symbolizes resilience, hope, and the journey from history to what lies ahead.
