Toumai® Surgical Robot and Its Telesurgery Technology Are Revolutionizing the Surgical Robotics Market and Advancing Surgical Development in Latin America On December 8th, over 70 renowned surgical experts from the United States, Europe, Morocco, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and other countries gathered in São Paulo to attend the launch of the #Toumai® Surgical Robot in Brazil. The event featured Professor Bruno Zilberstein, Chairman of the 11th International Gastric Cancer Conference (IGCC), President-elect of the Brazilian Society for Digestive Surgery, and Head of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the Clinical Hospital of the University of São Paulo. He and Dr. Danilo conducted a successful ultra-long-distance animal surgery experiment, demonstrating this groundbreaking technology firsthand. The surgery was performed between São Paulo, Brazil, and Orlando, USA, with a straight-line distance of over 6,800 kilometers and a total communication distance of more than 16,000 kilometers. Remarkably, there were no noticeable delays during the procedure. This follows the successful completion of the first ultra-long-distance animal surgery in Latin America earlier this year by Dr. Marcio Covas Moschovas MD, Ph.D, FACS from Professor Patel’s team. In that experiment, also connecting São Paulo to Orlando, Dr. Marcio performed a bilateral radical nephrectomy in 72 minutes, with a 13-minute warm ischemia period. The average network delay was just 120 ms, with zero frame loss, confirming the Toumai® Surgical Robot’s feasibility, safety, and effectiveness in performing telesurgeries in real-world medical environments. Following the experiment, Professor Zilberstein remarked that this achievement marks a significant milestone in the development of telesurgery technology in Latin America.
