🌟 Current GST Policy: A Challenge for Hotels & Restaurants 🌟 Did you know? Under the current GST rules: -Hotels must charge 5% GST on food & beverage (F&B) services if room tariffs stay below ₹7,500.
 -BUT if even one room is sold above ₹7,500 in a financial year, the GST on all F&B services jumps to 18% for the entire year! 💡 The Issue: •At 5% GST, Input Tax Credit (ITC) is denied, raising operational costs for hotels & restaurants. •Taxing F&B services based on room rates—two separate categories—contradicts the logic of distinct GST codes. 📉 Impact on Businesses & Consumers: •Higher costs for businesses often mean higher prices for consumers. •Prepaid bookings may lead to awkward tax adjustments, straining customer trust. 🏨 What About Restaurants? •Standalone restaurants: 5% GST without ITC. •Hotel restaurants: 18% GST with ITC, labeled "luxury."
This policy denies standalone restaurants the choice to opt for ITC, which many desperately need to manage high rents and expenses. What Needs to Change?
 -Allow flexibility: Let restaurants choose between 5% without ITC or 18% with ITC (like the VAT ).
 -Update the outdated ₹7,500 threshold for 12% GST on room tariffs, adjusting it annually for inflation.
