The PEG is a cornerstone of the PROCARIBE+ approach, inspired by lessons from the CLME+ project. 🤝 It fosters collaboration among co-executing partners to ensure timely project implementation by collectively analyzing progress and tackling challenges head-on. The PEG brings together some of the region's leading organizations working on issues like: #fisheriestraceability, #MarineSpatialPlanning, #MarineProtectedAreas, #Bluecarbon development, and more. 🌎 PROCARIBE+ is committed to strengthening these institutions and fostering cross-border cooperation to safeguard our coastal and marine ecosystems. In particular, the webinar will profile the Agreement’s role as a basis for the work of regional fisheries management organizations and arrangements (RFMO/As) and other regional fishery bodies and provide examples of implementation at the national level by States Parties to the Agreement in the region. The webinar will also provide information on the capacity-building opportunities under the Project of Assistance to Strengthen Participation in and Implementation of the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement (UNFSA-POA) as well as on some of the tools available to further understanding of the Agreement, including a recently finalized implementation guide to the Agreement. 📣 Call for applications: NF-POGO-JAMSTEC Fellowship for Shipboard Training on the GO-SHIP P4W Expedition 🔎 The 2025 JAMSTEC GO-SHIP P4W expedition will traverse the western end of 10oN line (P4W) in the tropical northwest Pacific Ocean, observing a variety of Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs), including temperature, salinity, oxygen, major nutrients, dissolved inorganic carbon, and microbial communities. This expedition will contribute to the GO-SHIP observation network, which aims to detect long-term changes in ocean properties across all major ocean basins. 📚 The selected fellow will join the 40-day expedition on board the R/V Mirai, participating in water sampling and analysis onboard, working alongside world-class scientists and technicians, and gaining hands-on experience in techniques essential to producing high-quality datasets. In addition to taking part in the cruise, the fellow will spend one week prior to the cruise and one week after the cruise at JAMSTEC (Yokosuka, Japan). Under supervision of Dr. Shinya Kouketsu and Dr. Yuichiro Kumamoto, the fellow will learn about oceanographic observation and research at JAMSTEC, conduct preliminary data analysis, and assist with the mobilisation and demobilisation of the cruise. 🔦 Who can apply? Early-career scientists, technicians, postgraduate students (PhD/MSc), post-doctoral fellows with a background in oceanography, who are nationals of and working in developing countries and countries with economies in transition (see eligible countries here). The working languages onboard the ship will be English and Japanese. 🗓️ Deadline: November 1. 📢 🏙️ The First #OceanDecade International Coastal Cities Conference will take place on 26-27 February 2025 in Qingdao, China! Happening ahead of the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference, this event will accelerate the co-design of ocean science to strengthen the ocean’s contribution to the sustainable development of coastal cities. Coastal cities are among the fastest-growing human settlements in the world. They have much to benefit from the growth of a sustainable ocean economy, but also face escalating threats from climate change, ocean pollution, and other environmental risks. The Ocean Decade presents a unique opportunity to harness ocean science and knowledge to address these challenges, enhance the resilience of coastal cities to global change, and improve the living conditions and well-being of their inhabitants.
