*How can human health be protected in a changing climate? Which concepts, measures and tools exist to address arising challenges and health threats?* Globally, health actors and health systems are challenged with a new dimension of health risks and frequently recurring system shocks of climate related disasters, droughts, floods, food insecurity, heat waves, infectious disease, migration, and armed conflicts. The climate crisis has built up to a global health emergency affecting particularly the most vulnerable populations in low-resource and humanitarian contexts where an overlap of climate and humanitarian crisis exists. While health systems are struggling to keep pace with the rising number of disasters, there is a deep discrepancy between climate related health demands and responsive, adaptive capacity of public health systems and stakeholders leaving the health needs of the most vulnerable unmet.  If you are interested in deepening your specific knowledge on the matter, than our upcoming course *Climate Change Adaptation in Health Sector* might be of interest to you! Using a system approach, this two-day workshop combines theoretical lectures and practical case studies, group work and discussion. As #2024 comes to a close, we want to extend our heartfelt #thanks to all our participants who joined our trainings this year. We are thrilled to share some #highlights: ...we were able to offer a total of 33 courses via aha in 2024, of which 🔹 26 by aha partners and 7 by external providers 🔹 18 online, 12 face-to-face and 2 hybrid 🔹 11 as certificate courses. ...over 450 people took part in our courses this year.  ...three participants successfully completed our #certificate programme in 2024, including one participant in "Anticipatory Humanitarian Action" and two in "Foundations of Humanitarian Action". With this incredible milestone, we are excited to give you a #sneak peek of our plans for next year: We will offer our courses #NEAT+ Training of Trainers (1) and (2) again as well as our Climate Change Adaptation (#CCA) course, this time with a focus on the health sector. Furthermore, the German #Sphere and Basis-#Sicherheitstraining are going to run again. In the 3-day course "#WASH in Emergencies", which took place last week at the Akademie der Ruhr-Universität gGmbH, our participants received a comprehensive overview on the field of WASH in #humanitarian and transitional assistance, technical and non-technical options of intervention as well as specifics and challenges in the WASH #sector. The course covered the basics of humanitarian #assistance in the WASH sector, including the related humanitarian #principles and WASH standards. Approaches and technologies for water, sanitation and hygiene provision in humanitarian crisis settings had been presented as well as WASH-specific project planning approaches and cooperation structures in humanitarian #aid. Our experienced trainers Thorsten Reckerzügl and Lorenz Ewers from the German WASH Network gave technical inputs and contributed up-to-date practical examples to the course. Thank you very much for joining us and taking part in the course. It was a lot of fun and you were a great group :)

Last week, we were delighted to host 12 committed participants at the Akademie der Ruhr-Universität gGmbH in Bochum for our latest #Sphere Training. The Sphere #Handbook provides a principled approach to ensuring quality and accountability in humanitarian response. During this engaging course, participants gained: - A deep understanding of the Humanitarian #Charter, the cornerstone of the Sphere Handbook. - Insight into the Core Humanitarian Standard (#CHS) and Protection Principles, which guide ethical and effective humanitarian aid. - Knowledge of technical standards in the four key sectors: #WASH, food security and #nutrition, shelter and #settlement, and #health. - Practical skills to apply the Sphere Handbook in both field and office settings, reinforced through small group exercises. The participants’ enthusiasm and collaboration throughout the training were inspiring.
