Today, APRI's Climate Change Jargon Series is spotlighting carbon credits! Carbon credits—or offsets—place tangible value on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. They can be bought by businesses, organizations, or individuals to offset their own carbon footprint. Africa has a high potential in the carbon credits market, with Kenya making strides as the second-largest issuer of carbon credits in 2022. #ClimateAction #CarbonCredits #SustainableAfrica #CarbonOffset #APRI

As “the finance COP” wraps up, we at APRI are highlighting the potential of green bonds. Africa's share of the global USD 2.2 trillion green bond market is less than 1%. At #COP29, states must commit to accelerating the creation of enabling environments, capacities and collaborations for green bond issuance in Africa. We wrapped up our time at #COP29 with our second event at the Children and Youth Pavilion. The event, moderated by Dr. Serwah Prempeh, PhD, discussed how youth-led tech start-ups are navigating the bureaucracy of access, limited funding, technical support, and infrastructure through creativity and resilience. Key Takeaway: The most successful start-ups are those with the capacity to attract and manage financial and human resources and are supported by crucial mentorship that opens doors to financing and knowledge networks. The session underscored the urgent need to reform STEM and TVET curricula to better align with the innovation and employment demands of African economies. It ended with a call for government commitment and initiatives that prioritise the localisation of green technology and provide both supply-side and demand-side incentives to scale green technology innovation. Thanks to our panellists and Strategic Youth Network for Development : SYND GHANA (SYND), for making the event successful.
