Ever since our founding by the brothers Clemens and August in 1841, C&A has been at the forefront of fashion. From making 'ready-to-wear' a thing when custom-made was the norm, to popularising miniskirts in the 60s, introducing the Com-bi-kini in the 70s, Bio Cotton in early 2000 and the first Cradle-to-Cradle Gold certified garment (www.c-a.com/c2c) in 2017 - we have always evolved with the times, making stylish and quality clothes possible for everyone. And while C&A and the world around us has changed over the decades, one thing has remained the same: our dedication to offering sustainable and quality fashion for the entire family.     Time for our teams in the offices to support our colleagues in the stores! 💃🕺 Especially during the busy festive season, we focus on our core: The consumer-obsession combined with a lot of togetherness and a hands-on, can-do mentality. During the store days, co-workers from the offices help in our stores for a few days – for instance by welcoming customers, refilling merchandise and supporting the cash desk area. With this simple approach, the store’s supporters ensure a great customer experience, even on a crowded day. But even more, they also get an even better understanding of the place that builds the heart of our brand. With the store days, we are bringing our teams with different backgrounds closer together, giving a behind-the-scenes view of daily store operations, and strengthening exchange – all of which form the basis for generating fresh, innovative ideas.     We are celebrating our last store openings of 2024: in Prahova Value Center, Ploiești, Romania last week and in Madrid Westfield Parquesur shopping centre, Spain yesterday! 🎈 Look at the great results that our amazing colleagues brought to life! In 2024 we continued to modernize our store network and have been introducing innovative solutions along the way – including a floor made of denim cutting residues from our own factory (you can admire the denim floor in the new stores in Madrid and Vienna!) and a new checkout area with RFID systems in Munich. Did you know that the approach of testing new solutions in our stores is part of C&A’s history? To create the best customer experience, C&A has been pioneering already from the start: 🚀 In the beginning of 20th century, C&A was among the first retailers to introduce price tags, a one-year guarantee, the right to exchange & cash payment. 🚀In 1925, C&A was one of the first companies to sell women’s, men’s & kid’s fashion in the same shop – the beginning of fashion retail as we know it today. 🚀 In 1941, C&A tested the innovative self-service approach which was rolled out across stores by 1950. And since then, many more examples of innovation, which we have been sharing in the past years. The commitment to test and learn continuously is still part of C&A’s DNA today.     Who doesn’t love to browse through stores and get inspired? We think that this spark of inspiration should also spread to the digital world. So how do we create inspirational moments across digital platforms? Some examples: 💡 Show a multitude of styles on a variety of occasions by different people: You will find the same piece styled in different ways in the online shops, on our social media channels and in cooperation with influencers. They do not only show how they style a piece for their body type but also how they use it for various occasions. We especially love to see the styling videos by our colleagues – the best experts to show you their favorite style from our current collection. 💡 Share highlights and recommendations: Customers choose how and where to get the latest updates – from the new gift guide and trend boards on Pinterest (who share our passion for inspiration!) to updates via newsletters and recommendations in the stores. 💡 Cover everyday questions: We make fashion for the everyday and have been part of the daily lives of many customers. So, we decided to share some extra inspiration beyond our current collection – for instance with a guide to the perfect Christmas photo shoot and Christmas craft ideas for the kids. All this inspiration doesn’t happen in a virtual space but connects with real-world experience.     🟢 Moving beyond individual pilots 🟢 Through the sector-wide collaboration Fashion for Good we are aiming to scale innovative solutions, support research, and adopt good fashion practice. As a founding member of the initiative, we want to foster collaboration with fashion brands, NGOs, scientists, innovators and manufacturers. For instance, in 2024 C&A participated in Fashion for Good’s Home Compostable Polybag Project testing bio-based alternatives.     How can we really make an impact on the fashion industry? In more than 180 (!) years C&A has been driving innovation and navigating through a variety of challenges. Following our value of #ForwardThinkingAndActing, we define ourselves as an always-on learning community. Over time, we have built internal know-how and strong connections in the industry – this is now more important than ever: 🟢 We believe in the power of collaboration instead of competition Only in alliance with our longstanding partners – including fashion brands, NGOs, scientists, innovators and manufacturers – can we create the structural changes needed in the fashion industry. Today, we want to highlight one specific initiative that is very dear to our heart since we have been a founding member in 2017. The initiative is called Fashion for Good. Together with 23 renowned brand partners we invest in innovative solutions and research projects aiming to create good fashion practice. 🟢We are moving beyond individual pilots and are driving change together Fashion for Good is a platform for innovation that unites the fashion ecosystem. It is the place where innovators and start-ups meet known fashion brands. Together we build knowledge, we experiment, we test and learn, we scale new ideas. Our goal: Bring powerful innovations to market (faster) and drive change towards a more regenerative and sustainable industry. 🟢 We are making a lasting impact together Earlier this week we shared a post about the Cradle-to-Cradle certified© products at C&A – this initiative was born together with Fashion for Good in 2017. And this year we have launched a pilot of home-compostable polybags made of bio-based material and tested the potential of automated sorting technologies for re-wearable garments in a research project. Also in 2025 we will keep testing new solutions together with the Fashion for Good partners. And you can expect to find some innovative materials in our upcoming Spring / Summer collection.     Do you know what characterizes a Cradle to Cradle Certified© product? It means a product is designed so that its materials and components can be repurposed or recycled. The standard includes requirements on Product Circularity, Material Health, Climate & Clean Air, Water & Soil Stewardship and Social Fairness. As such, these products are one element of our Circular Design Strategy. C&A has been an industry leader in the introduction of Cradle to Cradle Certified© (C2C) products: 🟢 2017: First retailer worldwide to launch Gold Level C2C Certified® T-shirts. 🟢 2018: World’s first Gold Level C2C Certified® Jeans. 🟢 2020: Introduction of “Forever Denim” jackets, trousers and shirts – the first fabric ever to be awarded the Platinum Level C2C certification and the only fabric to achieve this certification to date. 🟢 2022: An additional C&A supplier in Bangladesh achieves their own C2C certification for circular knit products. 🟢 2023: Expanded C2C range to include Babywear. To date, we have launched over 4 million garments certified to C2C standards. And we aim to continue making meaningful steps towards circular fashion – for instance by increasing the use of recycled raw materials, driving the recyclability of our products (starting already in the design process), and collaborating with industry partners.
